Point I'm making and even Ian Wright made is he can do better. You'd probably admit yourself Arsenal are pretty crap compared to what they used to be. Yes, before you say it I know we have been even worse but are Arsenal really that attractive to one of the best players in the world? Have there actually been any quotes from Suarez or his agent that he wants to join Arsenal? and even if he does are Liverpool likely to strengthen the team they are trying to catch?

I'd currently put Arsenal on the second level of teams behind the top teams like Bayern and Barca etc...

The point is that none of the teams on the top level of the ladder are interested in taking Suarez, so the best he can get currently is the step up to Arsenal and CL football.

  4. I'd put them on the third level but I guess it depends on the size of the levels.

First level are the elites; there are only three clubs in this bracket IMO - Barca, Real and Bayern
Second level are the could win league titles or CL: teams like Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Dortmund, Milan, Inter, etc.
Third level are the ones that regularly get CL football and have an outside chance of winning something: ie Arsenal

I'd then say you have the likes of Spurs at level four (occasional qualification but not regular) follwoed by level five teams such as Liverpool who are aspiring to qualify.

Really? 4th best English team for the last 6-7 years is just behind Bayern Munich and Barcelona European champions and multiple European Champions? The bloke hasn't even made a transfer request. Guarantee he would have if Real Madrid had made an offer

Brendan: "You can't say that Gareth Bale is worth 100% more than Suarez."

  8. You couldn't say Andy Carroll was worth more than Aguero either <whistle>

The rat David Ornstein has been found out. Absolutely pathetic that a journalist for what is arguably the most reputable news organization in the world can't put his club loyalties to one side when writing a story. Should be sacked.

How many more people are going to be stupid enough to think that the value of one players individual transfer is relative to every other transfer going on. It's such terrible logic. Rodgers should just stay quiet - he'd come across much better if he just didn't comment about it imo.

I think he has come across very well throughout the whole saga to be honest.

He has done alright with some of his comments i agree.

But trying to compare the Bale transfer to Suarez as if that somehow dictates how much they should expect to get for Suarez is just silly.

i kind of agree it is getting sillier now days and a clear club bias is being used which shouldn't be allowed, trouble is they will say sources told them, how do they go about proving it is just their opinion, sky use the same crap, also they have a fecking betting site, how that is legal is beyond me as surely a conflict of interest there lol.

my tv license is paying for worst and worst as it goes along it seems, one minute funding ****s, the next using "sources" to unsettle my club the batards.

when i was a lad i know people that thought the council tax was a fecking joke and would rather do 6 months prison instead, wonder how long it will be before we see that start coming back with people having to pay for what is a joke in tv license(it was to get the signal before what's the reason now?), fecking big society and all in it together my arris.

Mentioning other transfers and attempting to value your player based on them are two different things :p

    #3415
  16. Why else would you mention a transfer fee that has nothing to do with your club?

I agree that comparing it to the Bale figure is ridiculous because Real are being twats. I'd say the same about PSG and Cavani but then, there has been a whole host of players moving for around the £40m-£50m mark!

Bale had about 7 good games last season in the new year. He has never been consistent and has never won anything.

Suarez is a World Cup semi finalist, Copa America winner. Better goal scorer for club and country than Cavani and 2nd top goal scorer last season, only for getting suspended.

There is no chance Suarez is over valued by ourselves, it is fully justified. If anything the Cavani transfer and Bale tranfer should make us hold out for £60m+

I don't think he's using it to realistically ask for 100mil for Suarez. He's just indirectly telling Arsenal that they either pay silly money or there's no chance he's going.

  19. Almost, he is saying don't offer a offensive amount, if you want him then cough up.

Brendan Rodgers believes Luis Suarez will have been 'humbled' by the superb reception given to him at Anfield during Steven Gerrard's testimonial on Saturday.

The manager spoke to the owners on Friday night and today reiterated the club's determination to keep its best players.

Rodgers believes days like today can only help persuade Suarez that Anfield is the place for him to play his football in the long-term.

"It was probably not the reception that you guys thought!" the boss told journalists after the 2-0 victory over Olympiacos.

"It just shows you the class of the Liverpool supporters. Maybe people wondered what kind of reception he would get but that's the type of supporters Liverpool are. They love their own, and Luis is still very much part of the group and the team.

"They've given him everything, the supporters here.

"He was probably humbled by the reception. There might have been that wee bit of trepidation about the reaction he might have got, but people who've been at this club a lot longer than me and know the Liverpool way, they know the fans always respect their people and respect their own.

"Today was another message from them that they love him here. We all love him, as a manager, players and supporters. We're trying to keep our best players.

"We only want players who are totally, 100 per cent committed to being here. I've spoken to Luis countless times over the summer and, of course, speculation can always be difficult for players, but he's back training and playing.

"The more he's around the group, the more he's around the great support here... And days like today, and during the tour - if ever anyone wanted to know the status of Liverpool Football Club they did while we were on tour and today.

"This is a remarkable football club and I don't think you want to leave one of the biggest clubs in world football in a hurry. He knows that."

Asked if there was any update on Suarez's future, Rodgers added: "There are lots of stories that are going on around Luis but there's no change in it.

"We've had two bids from one club. That was nowhere near the valuation in the market now for a top, top player.

"Until there's anything dramatic that changes he's still in working. We've got to get him up to speed.

"It's very, very simple. We don't want to sell him. He's a top player and we're trying to build something here.

"There's nothing new to report other than he's working well and he got a great reception today."

Journalists pressed Rodgers further on whether, ultimately, Suarez had a value that, if met, could prompt a departure.

"Every single player in the world will be open to that, but it's not something we're thinking about, to be honest," he said.

"I was on the phone to the owners last night and they know what we're trying to do here. We're trying to build the group up and we're in no hurry to sell Luis or any other player.

"Throughout the world, every player has a value and worth. You look at the market and £40,000,001 - when Gareth Bale they are talking about [a lot more than that].

"Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez were arguably the two best players in the Premier League last year and you can't say Gareth Bale is valued at 100 per cent more!

"We as a club are very strong in what we're doing and there won't be anyone moving out of here in a hurry."
