We all know Snodgass is a class player but can we afford not to sell him, We need a lot of new players, We needs transfers funds and Bates isnt going to pay for them out of his own pocket, If we can sell Bassone and Grella they wont bring in much, At least we have wages available with the departure of Higgs, Naylor, Johnson, Kilkenny, Grella, and Bassone. Do we still want Bruce, What about Parker he never plays always injured, Should we cut those 2 free
I think we can agree they're more united than Sheff Utd, their fans calling for their own manager's head before he's played a game just because he used to be at Wednesday. It's not like Wilson's a bad manager either, just had a terrible board at Swindon who sold all their good players and left him with peanuts to work with.
Do we need a new defence or can we rebuild it with player currently at the club Connolly, O'brein, Kisnorbo, White, then we have Tom lees and Highly rated Monty Gimpel. Do we give these players a chance, if we do bring a player, would he be a squad player or walk straight into the first team Maybe bring back Lichai for Connolly, who eles would you replace.
Unproven in the prem? I'd say running rings around the scum and Arsenal is proof enough that he can step up to the plate.
I don’t think Connolly did bad for us and lichaj was great. We need to strengthen central defence as it quite frankly isn’t good enough as proved on numerous occasions. We need a Doyle style player to combat against attacks from midfield. Now who would have thought we’d have been wishing for someone like that. Underrated what he did I think.
Doyle was class in L1 and did a great job in the seaosn we went up.... For sure we missed that protection last season.. as well as missing Paddy - think it will be great to have him back in August but be nice to have a strong, quick partner for him..
Pags Tom lees and Kisnorbo, Lees has vision and can anticipate the play and can distribute the ball, Paddy as we know puts his body on the line, if we had a defensive midfielder sat in front, worth a try?
Doyles not good enough although we are crying out for someone in that DCM role. Clayton has recieved a rave review from the MK dons gaffer, lets see how we copes in pre season. Would love us to sign Cork from Chelsea he is just what we need, but theres others interested now so we will be priced out.
I don’t think Paddy will be the same unfortunately..that was a bad injury and with his age I just don’t think he will be the same. Could be wrong. Lees is untried but could be something but them two alone are not good enough. we have no support for them cos O’Brien is a bag of *bleep*, Naylors gone…Bromby cant cut it for me, we need something else. But I agree we need that defensive midfielder and I’m extremely peed off that nothing was done int eh January window. We may have failed in the playoffs even if we had strengthened BUT we’d have got there. I’m disappointed. I wouldn’t be bothered if we had been mid table all season etc as long as we didn’t go down but to be up there all season and then same thing to happen of not knowing whats occurring in the second half of the season has made me feel deflated.
And the first couple of League games too if we really want to see what he's made of. Bit harsh to judge anyone's ability on a pre-season friendly. I think there are a few reasons our defense has been so poor this season (other than McCartney who was just awful all-round): A. Instability - While I'm an advocate of Grayson switching the attackers/midfielders round when they're tired, the defense needs some continuity and consistency. We tried out far too many defensive combinations and the players never really gelled and developed seperate roles back there. We weren't playing to our defensive strenths. B. Exposure - Johnson, Kilkenny, Howson and even Bannan and Livermore when they played still offered little protection to the defense. Plus they had a habit of losing the ball in crucial areas leaving our defense exposed. Next season, this much-discussed DM figure should be able to cut that out by sitting deep and dispossessing the opposition. C. Coaching - I'm sure Glynn Snodin and Ian Miller are really nice guys, but O'Brien is a top Championship quality defender - we had to fight Cardiff for his signature right to the bitter end. How did he turn so suddenly bad in the same way that Schmeichel somehow managed to? I can only presume this is down to bad coaching. Get a new backroom staff in, I say. Personally, I think that if we got a new left back in and new coaches, a defensive selection of Connolly, O'Brien, Kisnorbo, Lees and Bromby - if managed correctly - would be promotion-worthy.
Lees played 50 games for Bury, yes i know its only Bury, he was their players player of the year and fans player of the year, Let give him his chance in pre season.
Kind of agree with you Loiner. I don't think the coaching is up-to-scratch. oh and McCartney was soooo soooo sooooo bad. Lichaj and Connolly for me were good. oh and isnt Aidy whiet currently playing at Left Midfield now not Left Back?
Seems like he was playing on the wing for Oldham but in fairness when Aidy was played at left back in his three appearances for Leeds, he didn't look out of place at all. Far better than please log in to view this image We should have kept Andy Hughes on instead of playing that walking disaster.
I couldn’t believe it though cos he wasn’t too shabby in his first spell but the second spell it was an absolute disaster! Says it all when BJ plays better in that position than he did.
