Coverage: Watch highlights on The Football League Show; listen on BBC Radio 5 live and BBC local radio; text commentary on the BBC Sport website

    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head
    • QPR and Sheffield Wednesday find themselves in the same division together for the first time in four seasons.
    • The west London club are undefeated in six home league matches against Wednesday, but have only won two of those.
    • The Owls last claimed maximum points at Loftus Road in October 2000, with a 2-1 win at second league level.
    • The Hoops registered a 3-0 victory on the only previous occasion this fixture has been staged as a season opener, 42 years ago.

    Queens Park Rangers
    • Queens Park Rangers return to the Championship after two seasons in the top flight and are targeting an immediate return to the Premier League, which has been achieved 15 times since its inception in 1992.
    • The R's will want a repeat of their last opening day result at this level, when they beat Barnsley 4-0 at Loftus Road in 2010.
    • Harry Redknapp's club are starting a league campaign in front of their home supporters for the sixth successive season (W2, D1, L2).

    Sheffield Wednesday
    • Sheffield Wednesday survived for a second season in the Championship after promotion from League One in 2012, finishing four places and four points above the relegation zone.
    • Dave Jones's side failed to score in 16 of their 46 Championship games last term - no club exceeded that.
    • The Owls have lost an opening day fixture only once in eight seasons (2007).

Indeed, and Barton and Henry side by side. Will be interesting seeing them together. Just had a laugh at an old tweet of Bartons he did in May which stated in caps...."I'll just re-iterate for a lot of the buffoons tweeting me. I WILL NOT BE PLAYING IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT SEASON. Hope that clears that up!"

Doesn't mean he won't be picked and standing in the middle of the pitch at 3pm, just that he won't be playing.
