Who knows? It has to be said that Banega doesn't seem to be that keen to come here and with Soldado going to Spurs for £26m I imagine Valencia are under a bit less pressure to sell.

£26M is a drop in the ocean compared to their last reliable debt figure in 2010 of £501M, and it hasn't improved. They need to sell the team, the ground, everyone.

They're not going to be trying to wipe out that debt; they just need it to be manageable. If they're making enough to cover the monthly payments then it doesn't really matter how big the number is. Rumours that they want Torres might suggest that actually the debt is manageable.

Exactly. They can't possibly make £500m this summer and they've been in debt for years now so it must be manageable. Whatever their financial requirements are, a £26m fee will make the need to sell other players less pressing.

They will still accept a good bid for Banega and have. It's Banega who is stalling.

Man Utd have a big debt.

I have a big mortgage (debt).

We both meet our monthly payments so debts are not as important as income (t/o) to clubs, as long as it all stays manageable.

Theirs isn't they are badly trying to sell their old ground to re coup some money but can't due to recession . Most of their fans are saying all their players worth over €5m will be sold.

No doubt. The point is that without the Soldado money a Surman-type sale would be more likely. In that scenario Valencia would be more likely to tell Banega "Sorry but we need to sell you so you really have to go." As they already have money coming in they're more likely to keep him if he doesn't really want to leave.

I have a feeling that Banega will follow if we get Damiao, I also reckon that the reason for that Pochettino press conference where he named our targets was make it clear to potential targets that we were showing ambition.

Good point. If we get Damiao that might well sway Banega.

Been told they accepted a bid of around £10.6m from us and want him to go. But Banega is stalling which has pissed of Cortese off a bit. So he has put it on the back burner and look else where. We have still got a bid accepted and have not pulled out yet.

That's the point. They haven't been able to service it. They've been limping along with Spanish Government help.

That sounds about right. I've never said the deal is off, just that Valencia selling another player for big money makes it less likely that they'll force Banega to leave if he doesn't want to.

Mmmm...is that technically giving up, though? You are ignoring (or if oring, if you are Fatletiss;)) the kettle hoping it will boil.
