I think if have been more harsh than DTLW on a lot of them! Few names in that list raised a smile, particularly Lee Holmes. I'm friends with a Preston fan who loves him, I'm glad he's doing well.

2009 was the year I really started 'supporting' Saints, having just moved to uni and never really truly supported a club before. So these players are the only ones I've ever seen actually play for Saints as a supporter!

Great though the kick was, the disbelieving moment caused by the tribunal ruling trumped it for me. We have, by my math, received £385,000 for him thus far: an initial fee of £275,000, £60,000 in appearance money (with another £60,000 likely to follow this year), and £50,000 because Huddersfield earned promotion. Plus, we have a never-to-be-relevant sell-on clause of 20% profit.

So when all is said and done, one Oscar Gobern will be roughly equivalent to nine Richard Chaplows, two Jason Puncheons, one Frazer Richardson, three-fifths of a Jack Cork, two-fifths of a Rickie Lambert...or one-seventh of a Vegard Forren. Football math is tricky.

Crikey, we've had some mediocre players at this club. Undeniably, we've also had some crackers too. Although not an absolute, one can roughly measure the league position when the crackers outweighed the mediocre and visa-versa. :)

Incidentally, that's true for almost every club, which is why Brian Clough remains my most admired manager [yes, over Fergie, Ted, Lawrie, Nigel, Tino et al] because he took journeymen and moulded them into superstars. To my knowledge, nobody perhaps save Shankly has remotely done that before or since. But that's yet another subject.

But he missed out on our deadly BWP-McGoldrick partnership, the legendary Jason Euell era, defenders like Makin, Lucketti and Powell, Jermaine ****ing Wright! Those were the days.

Marek Saganowski played for us in league one? I don't recall that.

I was with a celtic fan last night. Interesting comments about their ex-players:

Jos - no real comment as didn't remember him
Fox - every club he joins, he said he's great at the start then fades to rubbish. He said in the first few months his set pieces were incredible at Celtic and then he kept whacking them high and hopeful
Big Vic - what a player you've signed from us. He is raw, but simply fantastic. Watch him brush other midfields aside.

I mentioned Hooper and he said that we've not missed of there. He reckons he's only good with a team that completely dominates the opposition. He thinks he'll fade out in the EPL at a mid to lower table side.

I was a massive Saga fan but he certainly faded away at the end of his Saints career.

I don't think we've missed out with Hooper...he missed out with us. He would have suited us a year or two ago, but not any more. I hope Vic will add some strength to our midfield, but he is also a talented player. I don't agree with the slating of Fox. There is no way that he is a starter for us in the PL, but he has stepped in when needed. Two managers have appreciated what he brings to the table. We haven't the money to replace everyone, so he provides the back up player that doesn't expect too much pitch time. Not a ringing endorsement, but I dislike the way some fans turn on players just because we've moved on. Jos and Fonte will be fighting for match time this season, though played better last season once settled in. The question is...have they peaked...how much improvement can we expect at their age? The secret may lie in defensive training...can the back four be better than its parts? They have a teacher in Pochettino, though he believes in attack being the best form of defence.

Fran, I wasn't slating Fox really, as you know I was one of he biggest defenders in the championship season. I did get worried at times with him last season though. I just thought it was interesting that he said he was good then faded and he thinks he's done that at every club.

Agree, Hooper may wish he had been able to join us before.
