That's a good call, Joe. In fact, it's that good I'm going to recommend it to a person I know who is on the look out for a new laptop deal.

Of course, it's not an ultra gamer's machine, just in case you wanted that level of performance.

No, the only PC gaming I'm interested in is Football Manager. My main issue with this machine is that I don't want Windows 8.

Am I seeing a different price to everyone else, doesn't seem that great of a deal to me unless I'm missing something miraculous in the specs? <laugh>

- i5-3230M
- 8GB RAM
- 1000GB HD
- NVIDIA GeForce 2GB DDR

I'd have expected them to skimp on at least a couple of those things to get it under £500. But if you know where I can get a better deal, I want to hear it!

Well the only dull thud is the Intel i5 dual core. I'd be buying myself one if it was an i7 for that price. The i5 is no slouch though and the rest of the spec is very respectable indeed. Lenovo are pretty good too. Nice colour too, although I'd imagine it comes in others.

Here is the spec of the PC I'm currently writing this on, Joe.

Quad core AMD Phenom IIX4 850 3.3ghz
3Gb DDR3 RAM
1 System HDD SATA3 160gb
1 Data HDD SATA3 250gb
1 ATI 5450 1gb graphics card with HDMI outlet
1 DVD Rewriter
5.1 HD audio
Al in a nice black and silver, scratch free tower. Cost..? NOTHING..! Fetched it out of the computer bin at the recycle centre..! Le god knows what possesses people to throw things away that good. It'll even play reasonably complex games. <laugh>

Well I'm not saying it's a bad deal, and I don't have any specific others in mind, but I got a Acer last year with 8GB RAM, 2.4GHz, 750GB with a GeForce 640M from Tesco's for £320 (Possibly a Christmas deal?). Lenovo are a lot better than Acer and it has a touch more memory and has a bit better processor but that's not £180 worth of benefits.

Don't mean to be a nit-picker but think if you look around you can find similarly good or better deals. Personally hoping soon to finally pack in my procession of short-lived overheating laptops and get a nice PC, but then again I've been hoping that for almost 10 years! <wah>

Well there's your answer. Their reputation is not fantastic, Mikey. Personally, I wouldn't own an Acer. I've had too many come to me with problems.

That's what I like to see. Someone who thinks for himself and goes against the tide. :)

Indeed, as I said I'd much prefer a Lenovo but that's still £180 just for a better brand, then small improvements in memory and the processor. Don't think Acer are great but personally I've had two in my time and not really had any problems with them save for a bit overheating, but that's pretty much been the case with all of my laptops as I run them into the ground. The one I have at the moment is probably the best laptop I've had and I've had about 9 haha.

Have you checked out Novatech..? They'll do you a machine with no OS. Mind you, the price you'd be paying for the Lenovo, you are effectively getting the OS for nothing, so you can always remove it.

I'll give it a look now.

My last laptop was an Acer and it was a constant pain in my arse.

My laptop atm is a ASUS lasted two years and does what I need.

That's what I'm planning on doing as soon as I settle down after uni.

I've been wanting one ever since I got my first laptop second-hand from my uncle and got addicted to CS:S and BF2 when I was like 10, always had obstacles, not enough room, not enough money etc., but in the end I've probably gone through enough laptops to pay for 3 top-level PC's, and just one of them would probably have lasted me as long as all of the laptops combined. *Sigh*...

So why keep buying laptops..? You could always buy a PC a bit at a time.

I think the motherboard in this 4 core PC I have is an ASUS. Damn good board too.

Yeah was told by a mate ASUS are very reliable, cost me £400 at the time. Still lets me play the latest CIV and FM, so it's fine by me.
