"I was very happy to hear of the possibility of AC Milan Glorie travelling and playing against a Newcastle United legends team at such a famous stadium," Baresi said.

"I know the passion of Newcastle fans and I know of the club's history and the love of football in the city, so I congratulate Steve and wish the fans and Newcastle United a magnificent occasion."

    Franco Baresi

Does it get any better than this? Baresi is my favourite player of all time and for me the best player of all time (you can keep your Pele's, Maradona's, Messi's and Ronaldo's <laugh>) I can't wait for this game.

The guy was frankly an unbelievable defender. Better by far than Moore, Beckenbauer, etc. If I was Harper, I'd have that framed and signed!

Nice to know we as fans and a club are regarded so highly by one of the best footballers ever and probably the best defender to play the game. If we had a defender in the last two decades as good as Baresi, we probably would have won some silverware.

Baresi was good in his day, however he didn't have to face Shola and the aerial threat of Willo every week.

Baresi was a brilliant player, but seriously "Better by far than Moore, Beckenbauer, etc" ? I dont think so.

Defenders never really get the credit they deserve. You never hear the likes of Baresi, Passarella, Ayala, Moore, Beckenbauer, Koeman etc even get a mention when worlds best players come up. Always annoys me.

Always one, and usually you chump. If your not mentioning us on here without provocation, your on our board talking ****ing ****e 'Giaccherini, unproven (Italy international...)'

Many of us have craic on this board without any digs, bad blood or whatever, you aren't even correct in your ****e opinions.

    Prick end.

Totally agree pal, often overlooked is the goal saving tackle, every bit as valuable as a goal or assist, that's not to mention the organisational skills of a top CB who would stop chances from even happening by directing his back line.

Baresi was the master at this, and I'd say yeah, probably was the best out and out CB ever.

Beckenbauer, of course, totally ripped him in other areas, but that's by the by.
