I think my position remains the same, It is a tough call, £105mil, or whatever, is a ****load of money; but, what do you do with it? Well, you can't replace Bale, that's for sure. That's why Real are prepared to pay so much for him. Then, as Roo pointed out, the world and his brother will know that we have this money to spend, and will try to rip us off accordingly. Levy won't stand for that, so we could end up with nobody. If he stays, and we can sort our defence out, I think with a little luck with injuries, we could be genuine title challengers. We would have so much more firepower than last year. Last year, we pretty much had Bale, and that was it. If he stayed, opposition defences would have a real dilemma. Bale, Soldado, Paulinho, Chadli, all carry a goalscoring threat. As I say, if he insists that he wants to go, let him go and screw Real for every last penny. If there's any way he can be persuaded to stay, I would ignore any and all bids. BUT, and it's a big but, he has to want to stay. It appears he doesn't.
He'll do. watch at 0:31 and assess the through ball. That's exactly what we need. Class act.
I do get your point and I completely agree if we did keep Bale we would have an awesome team/squad next year and we should be title challengers. It is a tough call. I suppose that's why I think it is win/win. I believe in Levy that he will get a great deal if Bale does choose to leave. I guess in an ideal world we make some signings now even if we have agreed to sell Bale to Madrid and try to keep it quiet until we have done our business so we wouldn't get ridiculous transfer fees thrown at us!
We don't need to, he is in the Championship. He can't resist a comment. I'm just glad we now have a manager who can keep his mouth shut.
Wasn't the problem with Erikson that he's too inconsistent? Not sure we need another midfielder that plays through the centre let alone one that's inconsistent in the Dutch leagues where the quality is lower. We've already got Holtby and Sigurdsson for that. If we sell Bale then we need another wide player and should be looking to get a quality left back in too. Other than that, we need a couple of centre backs too.
Is he? I've never seen him have a bad game. Granted I haven't seen masses of him, but its been the complete opposite when I have seen him, he's been very good. Perhaps Cove can shed come light? SOS follows a lot of Dutch football too, so perhaps he might be able to offer some insight.
If bale is sold I won't consider it a successful window. I appreciate it is a lot of money but why then make promises to keep him? Guarantee he won't be sold... oooooooh unless its madrid. They're our 'special friend'. If he is sold, I want a goal scoring winger under the age of 24, with a huge ceiling, a young striker, starting lb, young starting cb and a tonne of "baldini buys" - ie one's for the future. If that's say, coentrao, morata, halilovic, llamela, chiriches... Well that's a start. We can't accommodate eriksen unless sig is now a wide man, Carroll is continually benched and holtby wants to play deeper. As much as I would like to.
I watch a fair bit of Dutch football and he plays like modric but with some VdV tendencies. He can simply go missing for either a half or 3 weeks. There is no doubting his talent but I wouldn't say he's any better than Gylfi or Holtby. Definitely better than Dempsey and Caroll though. Another problem is he's a 'name' that's been linked in the past with Madrid, united, bayern etc so Ajax will use that to drive up the price.
I don't see what his house has to do with anything He can live in a low ceiling bedsit as far as i care
Fair enough, I'll leave the judgement up to those who have seen more of him then. so basically he goes missing in the same way Dembele does? Lol, it's not like we're not used to it!
There are not many players that don't go missing occasionally, and Eriksen is still very young. Messi and Ronaldo are freaks of nature as they rarely go missing for long As people have pointed out a bit over the last few weeks the "3rd best player on the planet" goes missing too.
Very true. And if we're really honest, towards the end of the season when Bale's "game" had been sussed out, he did **** all for 85 mins of the game. It was just that odd occasion where he got a bit of space and was too fast that he saved our bacon. What I'm more surprised at, is that Eriksen's apparently no better than Sig or Holtby. when I've seen him, he's looked like he's much, much better. But I'll trust the judgement of people who know more
Also, there are many different types of player. There are players, like Modric i suppose, who dictate games, drive the tempo of the team and basically everything goes through them. Then there are impact players, their main skillset is to not necessarily be involved every minute of the game but have that _something_ extra that can get you something out of nothing regardless of how the rest of the game has gone. That's your Bale. Messi and Ronaldo, like i said, are freaks, in that they do both.
