And Aspas as a super sub? Any one got any update on Downing? Wish we could shift that bloody twat, reckon we could get £10mil - thought West Ham were interested...?
If Costa did come, then I expect him Downing to be gone. A lot of competition out on the wings now with Costa, Ibe, Sterling and Aspas. Not to mention that Suarez and Coutinho can play there as well. West Ham were interested - £8m but apparently Downing turned it down because he wants to fight for his place.
Will he play ball though if a reasonable offer comes in or dig his heels in? It seems like he still thinks he's good enough to force his way into the 1st team and has no intention of admitting defeat.
If it meant we'd replace him with someone a lot better, someone who could be first team material then I wouldn't actually mind if he went on a free transfer.
I don't even think it's that - I think he's enjoying life at a big club and picking up a wage without really earning it. I may be being unfair but he just strikes me as an un-ambitious man and this is reflected in his timid performances on the pitch.
Lol love the direct aprpoach! We should also remember that he's on very good wages - will be difficult to find another club who would be willing to pay the same amount - again, he strikes me as a person who is happy picking up the wages and sitting on the bench.
downing turned down west ham according to rumours... bascially he is the I HOPE last hold out on high wages. everyone else on high wages would seem to be able to play 1st team even skertl. downing WAS hodgson's england squad memebr... his lack of ambition stretches as far as not going to the WC (if england even get there) cos he'd rather bench warm. Rodgers needs to thank him for his "fight" (reality is there was nobody else) but repeat that he's got no future here bar u21s. and to F off. If he then stays to "fight" and takes cahs i thin ka spell in u21s per aug 31 should sort him out. if we do sign this costa guy he should be dropped asap to move him. If we can treat pepe reina like that we can treat surely bury this guy in a shallow grave with quicklime
Still a part of me that thinks Downing is a good option in bigger games because he tracks back well and won't try silly things and lose the ball.
Seriously, what has happened to the prices of Strikers in this window? it's utterly insane. £21m for Costa, who many, including yourselves, are saying "who?". I'm sure it'll end up being another bit of good business from Brendan, but jeez... no one should be saying "who?" over a £21m purchase! We've just paid £26m for a nearly 29 year old, and Bale could be leaving for £105m. what has happened to football?! I wouldn't go that far. Ignoring the way they left, I'd struggle to chose which one I'd prefer back though
