Surely "Liquidation" will mean the end of the club entirely.

You have to feel for the fans. There was a fella on talksport yesterday talking with the same passion we would be if it was QPR in that sort of trouble.

I hate to see that happening to any club - except Millwall! I'd gladly sign the paper that would end the existance of that miserable excuse for for a foorball club. Sorry, personal rant over.

The only club I can think of in a similar situation is Rangers. Think they hived off the name and so could start again

Nope on the BBC website - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23548760

Coventry City FC Ltd to be liquidated

Coventry City Football Club Ltd are to be liquidated after a Company Voluntary Agreement was rejected at a creditors' meeting in London.
    More to follow.

I would imagine that the club will survive in some sort of new co/pheonix operation. Whether this would contravene any FL rules I don't know. Is very sad indeed to see any club go to the wall, though I must say I don't have any particular love for Cov after the game at Highfield Road that essentially sent us down in 1996 and a really annoying song about singing together in jolly boating weather.

I hear a lot about this, living a few miles down the road. The way this club has been managed is appalling, but I think this is a planned move to re-establish themselves at the Ricoh. A good warning of the perils of not owning your own stadium. Can only feel for the fans, but the mess has been evident since they dropped out of the Prem.

Funny what sticks in one's memory. Their first game in the Ricoh was against us. Commentator on highlights show, "Brand spanking new stadium for Cov City and a spanking for QPR (we lost 3 nil as I recall)". Always irritated me but still feel sad for their fans just now.

I think at times like this petty disliking for such teams can be suspended. There are of course always notable exceptions.

Sad to see this happen to any club. I have no feeling towards Coventry either way (except Keith Houchen's diving header in '87 being a huge reminder of my childhood). However, I'm sure there are thousands of supporters just as passionate about their club as I am about ours, that will be devastated if they go out of business. Hopefully something can happen, looks like they are still planning on playing on Saturday so that must be a positive sign?

That's right, but I think that they're actually officially a new club, as in Rangers Newco, or AFC Wimbledon.

Absolutely shameful that the football authorities can stand by and allow this sort of thing to happen. I feel for the fans.

On one hand, Im glad because clubs should not be able to rip off the small businesses, go into admin and then be debt free where they were while others lose loads of money.

On the other hand, their fans dont deserve it but I think theyd take it to get rid of SISU.

Apparently it is one of the companies that owns the FC that has gone into liquidation. Situation clear as mud.

Yesterday I drove past The Broadfield Stadium, home of Crawley FC and was somewhat taken aback too see that their next match, the first of the new season, was against Coventry. It is not that long ago that Coventry were in the Premier League and Crawley non league. A salient reminder of how times change to us all.

Thats only about half an hour from where we are. Nice little ground - went there for our pre-season game there a few years ago.

Regarding Coventry, its always the fans that suffer badly in times like this. Their greedy stadium owners charging rent at sky high prices. What makes it worse is that the FL deduct something like 15-25 points. That will relegate them, and then they will have even less income.

I'm about that distance myself, but I'm further north than you. I have a client in Faygate which is very close. A couple of years ago he and I were going to go to their FA Cup math against derby but didn't because it was raining - good call eh? :emoticon-0138-think

Sadly its way more complicated than that Judo. The owners of the Ricoh, which includes Coventry Council, have indeed been bastards, and cut their own noses off in the process. But the byzantine way the ownership is structured and complete lack of clarity about who owns what has made it much worse, with brinkmanship on all sides. I know one of the (ex) coaches there, who used to play for them and several other clubs and has now moved to a new club. Haven't seen him for a bit but even a couple of years ago he said he had no idea who was paying him.
