By we I hope you don't mean spurs? He's a good championship striker but would be amazed if he was anything more than a 10 goal PL striker Then again I'm the guy who wanted Gary Hooper so can't really talk!
I bet there's not much between them TJ. - Austin has scored bucket loads everywhere he's been. Still v young too. Surprised someone like Cardiff didnt go for him.
Although I have said that if we get offered a lot of money we should sell bale, f*ck me we would have a good team if he stayed and everyone was fit! Without doubt IMO we would have a title challenging team.
Of course I mean the mighty Spurs! But I've lived in Swindon for half a life, and I saw him play a few times. He had legend status here.
Maybe this is what Levy is going for. "Look how much money i am spending Gareth! A star Brazilian, Spanish goal machine, Dutch trickster, some Romanian no-one has ever heard of" etc etc.
Just to clarify what I said earlier as some people seem to think I flat out want bale to go. If Bale signed a new contract I'd love him to stay But he has to sign a new contract not just say 'I want to stay'. If he wants to leave and won't sign a new contract then get rid of him.
Oops No no this is all part of the plan.... Get Bale to sign a new contract then tell him to **** off. Mess him around like he's messing us around
Team right now: Lloris; Walker, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto; Paulinho, Sandro, Dembele; Bale, Soldado, Chadli. Pretty good. 2nd XI with the same formation: Friedel; Naughton, Dawson, Fryers, Rose; Holtby, Parker, Sigurdsson; Townsend, Adebayor, Lennon. Players left over: Gomes, Dempsey, Huddlestone, Defoe, Livermore, Carroll. Need at least one more centre-half and to clear some of the deadwood from our squad. Maybe a few minor tweaks here and there, but we're not far off being ready, for once. Shame it's all being disrupted, but what can we do about it?
IMO, we need to calm down a bit. One of my mates just text me saying pretty much exactly the same thing. I know the additions to the side are exciting and it feels like we're really puttng a great team together (presuming Bale stays of course), but we need to get realistic over the Squad itself. which brings me onto PNP's comments... With the exception of Lennon from that 2nd XI, there's no one that excites me RIGHT NOW. To be a championship winning side, it needs to be stronger. When you see united make a sub and you see it's Rooney replacing RVP, or Hernandez replacing Rooney, you think "jesus christ... that's hardly a let off is it?!" - There's a whole new load of problems you've got to deal with. Unfortunately, our subs (bar 1 or 2), don't have that fear factor. - Or in our case, the comfort factor as they are our players obviously. City and United have those types of Players and so do Chelsea. We finished 17 points behind the winners last year. that's a lot of points to make up, even with 3 decent additions to the team. The bench needs a lot of work IMO if we're serious about winning the thing. Like PNP says, the deadwood needs cutting and an upgrade or 4 need to be brought in. - This will make the difference over the course of the season IMO. However, I feel that our squad is now stronger than Arsenal's (at the moment) and a CL place should be ours this season*, at someone's expense. *looking at things as they stand.
Carroll and Fryers don't use up squad places so we only need to sell one player of those left over. Ceballos always looks good to me as well. Perhaps Thudd is going to cover centre half.....
Talking of Ceballos (and Falque for that matter) some sort of decision on those two needs to be made. they are 21 and 23 respectively. Their either good enough or they aren't. i was disappointed we didn't see them more last season and they aren't that young anymore.
What happened to his Hull move? failed medical? Celtic are still interested in Austin and he should jump at the chance if they make a bid, as he will have what Hooper had, crap defences each week to show his "talent", plus champion league games,.
bit late for that I think. he's nothing but a goal scorer 2008–2009 Poole Town 42 (48) 2009–2011 Swindon Town 54 (31) 2011–2013 Burnley 82 (41) not bad, eh? certainly worth a punt. I bet he didn't cost much more than about 3 or 4 mill either.
