We should give them the money, why bother haggling. If Suarez makes the type of impact we all think he will, then we'll end up making back a lot of that £50 million from various inlets, e.g. Shirt sales, merchandising, higher league position etc.

If Suarez can make such an impact in a poor Liverpool side, then he'll be phenomenal for us.

And there are plenty worse ways to spend £50 million, for instance, you could buy an put of form Torres...

Just don't want another Higuain situation, where they hike the price at the last minute. If the sides can agree on a price that suits both parties we may see some movement. For now, it seems unlikely anything will happen soon.

Apart from the very reliable source that is a tweet<laugh> There is still the small issue that Arsenal fans will just not consider, did Suarez ever express an interest in moving to the Emirates?

Everything being said is based on unsubstantiated mutters.

I mean, a Nigerian 22 year old playing in Africa refused to come for a trial. Higuain chose Napoli. When this Suarez to Arsenal thing happens then I'll believe it, until then you can all run around like headless chickens trying to peck at the ground to dig up any shred of worthless journalism or social site feed you can.

It means nothing till Liverpool officially accept an offer Arsenal have not made yet and then Suarez holds talks with Arsenal, IF another club doesn't come in with a bid from abroad.

Glad you brought that up. Higuain's camp made it clear he wanted to join us, just Real decided to arse around with the price, and we didn't agree agree to the new price.

According to Arsenal News Review (who is normally pretty reliable)...

ANR EXCLUSIVE: In a heated board meeting, Wenger was told to offer £40m for Suarez
By Myles Palmer

August is here and it’s time for another ANR EXCLUSIVE on the same scale as Song and Van Persie have left the club.

You didn’t see that shocker on the BBC and or in any newspaper, and you won’t see this one either.

Right now, I can’t give you all of it. But I can give you enough to chew on.

In a heated board meeting, Wenger refused to spend big on Suarez.

Chips Cheswick and Phil Harris are pushing him to do deals.

But Wenger said : I’m not paying that for him.

Then the board ordered Wenger to make an offer of £40 million. They said, “Go to £40 millon. We’re instructing you to go to £40 million.”

And Liverpool have said: He’s yours for £50 million.

Centreback prices are so high that Wenger was looking at two centrebacks who are unknown to you or me or anybody else. He’s decided not to buy either of them.

He thinks Sagna can do the job and that’s not as crazy as it sounds. The mobile Sagna is great in the air for his size and is the best natural defender at the club.

Fellaini's clause is August 15 and nothing will happen before then.

Wenger has Kroenke’s ear and Stan says : You’re in charge, do whatever you want. I’ll make sure the board support me.

It’s stalemate.

Wenger is saying: I’m not paying more than 40. And Liverpool are saying :He’s your player for 50.

You all wanted to know what’s happening at your club. Now you do.

The Board are telling Wenger : We’ve lost all credibility with the fans, you have to buy Suarez.

And Wenger is able to stall because the owner has told him to do what he wants to do.

He's saying what many of us already suspected. Wenger is the one stalling.. NOT the board.

Myles Palmer is not reliable, I wouldn't trust him. Although many other people are reporting what he has said and I tend to believe it.

it's basically expanding on what the Guardian journo was saying the other day.

So it's Arsene and Stan vs Ivan and Chips.

AKA the least impressive fight ever.

He always used to be considered one of the more reliable blogs.
There's no hard evidence for any of these claims however.

He has claimed deals like Reo-Coker, Akinfeev, Jagielka, Cahill, Fabregas were all 'done deals' in the past. As Tim Payton actually has links to the club and is in regular dialogue with Gazidis, I take his word above most. I reckon that is where Mr Palmer has got his inside knowledge from as he is pretty much repeating what Tim has said.

What I want to believe is Wenger is going to wake up one morning and decide he will show some ****ing ambition, identify his targets, sign them at the going rate and not HIS RATE, plan for the new season and get it done now. Not for him to dither and dither and then panic like he has done in the last couple of transfer windows and what he appears to be doing in the current one. That is what I want to believe.

Although we often get the 'Not afraid to spend' spiel it's pretty clear Wenger would'nt be happy paying £40-50 Million on anyone.

"We don't sign superstars, we make them".
-Arsene Wenger 2007

"I am encouraged by the fact the financial results are good because I tried on my side to contribute to that. You want to work in a company that has a healthy financial situation and at the moment that is not obvious for everybody. I am quite proud I work in a company with a tight financial situation.
The sporting side is the most important and the financial situation is a requested situation but it is not good enough that you are completely happy to just do well on the pitch".
-Arsene Wenger 2008

‘’We face rivals who do not respect the financial fair play. Instead of us being accused, maybe people should look somewhere else.’’
-Arsene Wenger 2010

You look at the number of players who cost £20m and do not even get on the bench at Man City, and £27m [on Dzeko] is not a risk. It is a risk for me but not for them. If you have £100 in your pocket and you put £90 on a blackjack table, you take a risk. If you have £5m in your pocket and you put £90 on a blackjack table, it is not a risk.
-Arsene Wenger 2011

I am convinced that Europe will go into a huge financial crisis within the next three weeks, or three months, and maybe that will put everything into perspective again," he said yesterday. "Football is not untouchable. We live by people going to the stadiums and from [sponsors] advertising to people who buy products. All our income could be a little bit under threat in the next few months."
-Arsene Wenger 2011

“Chelsea supported the financial fair play, but in the morning they announce a £70million loss and in the afternoon buy £75million worth of players,”..Where's the logic in that?"

-Arsene Wenger 2011

"The transfers for these kinds of players are not at £30 million today, they are at £50 million or £60 million and what has gone through the roof is the wages of these players. That is why people plead for financial fair play. Some clubs even pleaded that the new television money (for Premier League clubs) should not be used to increase wages because it gives huge problems to everybody."
-Arsene Wenger 2012

"For years we were out of the race for the top-level transfers but we are coming back now because we are in a better financial situation and also because of Financial Fair Play. That will give everybody a bit more even ground.
I still believe that, even if we are in a stronger financial position, all our values still have to be the same.
We must rely on the quality of our work, on the style of our play and the fact we develop our own players. We will only use financial resources to bring in one or two players who will give us something more. It's very important that we keep to our strengths and what managed to get us through this period.”
-Arsene Wenger 2013.

Has anything really changed?.. Even if we have a £500 Million transfer kitty, Wenger is un-likley to spend it.

'Going rate' hmmm. Whoever shouted, at he beginning of the window, that we had pots of money to spend f***ed up the 'going rate' as far as we were concerned. If that was Wenger, then he does need sorting out. However, I don't think it was and he now finds negotiations are a tad more complex than before.

Ivan, Stan & Arsene have all put pressure on themselves with their lies over the last 3 years in particular. They have nobody else to blame but themselves.
