Everton legend Neville Southall says the club should forget about signing Joey Barton - because he is no better than Forrest Gump.

Boyhood Everton fan Barton, 30, has been linked with a move to Goodison Park and speculation increased after he cryptically Tweeted "once a blue..." last night.

But former Everton goalkeeper Southall believes Roberto Martinez should cross the QPR midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Marseille, off his list of transfer targets.

Southall said: "What is he going to add to Everton? I think they have already got a kitman.

"I don't see how he will fit into Everton's style of play. He isn't the best passer in the world. Yes he is fit and runs up and down all day but Forrest Gump did that as well, didn't he?

    <rofl>

Tottenham Hotspur reach agreement with Valencia for striker Roberto Soldado.

Looks like a done deal. Spurs getting their business done well before the start of the season. A very good signing which will add a lot of value to their squad.

Wouldn't mind Soldado here. Massive upgrade over Giroud.

Can't see why Bale wants to leave Spurs tbh, he'll likely flop at Madrid, and Spurs are building a good side.

That's £50M spent now from the small Europa League club Tottenham. While ambitious financial superpower European heavyweight Champions League contestants Arsenal have spent what, again?

I just wish the transfer window would close, now. It will save me 30 more days of torturing myself, we all know Wenger will not spend. If he does spend it will be panic buys (after the NLD). The man is a fraud and he is finally being exposed for it.

Don't think I can take another season of the fans constantly booing the team off

I think the fans will be too busy booing Wenger. It's his fault, not the team's.

Even Spurs (of all people) are addressing their weaknesses (Striker, CM), yet we're sitting on our hands, refusing to do anything. If Amy Lawrence (The Guardian) is right, then it's Arsene and Stan vs Ivan and the board. Arsene and Stan don't want to spend, Ivan and the board want some investment.

From following Tim Payton, Geoff and Dean Camden last night, the only thing stopping us spending £50M+ on Suarez is Wenger. And it is not just the fans that want him to spend but the players. It really is a ****ing disgrace, he is single handedly holding the club back with his massive ego, power trip and stubborn behavior. How do you think players like Jack, Podolski, Walcott, Koscielny, Arteta etc who have all called for us to spend money on and Wenger just sits on his ****ing hands counting his pennies? It wasn't that long ago Jack was following Higuain on twitter, in anticipation and excitement of a big money big name player finally being brought to Arsenal. And what do we do? We back out because we are scared to pay the ****ing going rate.

Another Summer like this and Jack will be gone and I WON'T BLAME HIM.

Unfortunately that "paper" happens to be an employment contract for Real Madrid and features the signature of one Gareth Frank Bale.

I know people laughed when Tony Cascarino said that Wenger is going the way of Clough, letting his ego manage the team, forgetting about logic. Why am i not laughing now?

Honestly agree with this. Arsenal could so easily be doing so much more.

Cant see this being true considering they're trying to get him to sign a new contract

Maybe it's on Stan's orders? Who knows?

all i know is that there's something seriously wrong behind the scenes if we've gone from being willing to advance, to just sitting on a Suarez deal that has effectively died.

Contract talk has gone quiet, maybe they have had a change of mind? From what I understood, Wenger was not going to sign a contract until the end of the season anyway, he said something like he wouldn't sign a new one of he felt he was no longer the right man, it was an insinuation that he would judge himself at the end of the season.

I really REALLY doubt he will be signing a contract in the near future. And if the rights signings are not made then he won't be signing one at all.

Would surely be a first in football to have a board who are eager to spend money but a manager who refuses to..
