IF Bale HAS said he wants to leave then that's it as far as I am concerned. Thanks for the moments young man, See you! Now we can get on with the new season with some exciting new additions and the return of Sandro & Kaboul. Can't wait.
that's rather short sighted to try and pick holes in bales performances considering he's been playing to a high standard for a while now, first as an attacking let back, then a winger, then a forward so of course aspects of his game will suffer but just look at the end product. you can't expect him to be superb at every aspect when he's learning a new role yet each role he's taken on, he's produced fantastic football and there's much more to come.
The problem is there are a lot of holes. Enough holes that makes £85m a ridiculous price. I don't think you understand the magnitude of the offer. Thats more than Ronaldo. A Ronaldo that could cross, header, defend, score, pass, dribble, tackle. I am not doubting Bale is amazing and if it was an offer of £60m reject it. But EIGHTY FIVE MILLION is insane. He is never, ever worth that.
@SpursOfficial: We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Valencia for the transfer of Roberto Soldado subject to medical. #THFC http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/deal-agreed-for-soldado-010813/
I highlighted part of that in bold just to emphasis how silly that was, so I'll ignore that. But as for bale being worth the fee, thats not even in question as you only need to look at all the current transfer fees being paid to realise its not about if they are worth the fee overall, but its the fee that the buying club have to pay, thats it, the only time you can truly discuss if the player is worth the fee paid, is after they have performed for the club. As for Bales "Holes" we forget (or some forget) he is naturally a winger, a left sided player, he is no VDV or Ronaldinho, his game has never been about passing ability or vision in the creative sense, his game is about direct, powerful running and now he has added finishing, so the reason he was sloppy, was because he was playing in a position which isn't natural to his game, hence the periods he would go missing but BANG, he scores, as thats what he does, direct end product. Football fees for the top players are increasing each year so its all a progression, just take a look at man city they have paid near to 30 million for an average Brazilian winger, we're about to pay near to 30 million for a 28yr striker who could be the next reyes and be a total flop. Overall the Bale fee may not look like its "worth it", to you, but Real Madrid believe he is not only one of the worlds best players, but is far from the finished product so its their call and I doubt he will let anyone down if the move goes ahead.
£85 million is of course a lot of money, but the true value of it is not absolute, it can only be measured in terms of what we can get for that money. That is the only important consideration. Anyone we go after we will find that the club wants more in fees and the agents will want more wages. So we maybe get three players? If we have to pay £100,000 per week for each, not unlikely, that's £5.2 million per year each, £15.6 million in total each year. All this hype and speculation is concentrating on one thing, the up front fee. That is so simplistic. But what do you expect from these people who can do no more than add more money onto an unknown bid amount and mention other players being involved by picking names out of a hat (or perhaps its not even that technical). Excellent news about our new striker anyway. Good job the deal was done before we got any payment for Gareth!
I completely agree with everything Tottenham jamspurs has said. You say what I'm thinking but put it better! I seriosuly dont understand the doom and gloom on here. Does anyone know the stats of how we got on in games when Bale played and didnt play last season? This may go against the argument but I'm sure we managed OK without him. £100 million is a ridiculous fee and one we would be stupid as a club to turn down. We are a business as well let's not forget.
I have the same problem - Klinsmann, Sheringham and Berbatov in my case. I couldn't bring myself to have Bentley or Jenas on a shirt...
