The only upside is that we have already signed 2 (3) quality players. I am excited to see who AVB and Baldini have up their sleeve with €100m available.

United lost Ronaldo but haven't exactly "struggled" have they?

Our strength in depth could become the best it's ever been. We still have too many players who are not good enough for the level we're trying to achieve. They need selling and better replacements need bringing in.

€100m + the revenue from the sales of these players could make us quite a force next season. We were all saying how we had no game changes when one of our few key players happened to miss a game, don't forget! We relied far too much on about 3 or 4 names last season.
Squad depth is vital at the top of the table.

    Yep, that is a possibility.
However, having thought about this more, we aren't the sort of club that sign mercenaries. We sign players who want to play for us, who are usually young, hungry and have a good attitude.

Lets not forget that we have one of the best training facilities in the world. From a day to day perspective, that must be a huge plus for anyone thinking about signing.

    (assuming Bale is going here)

Exactly. The game to play was to keep Bale this season and spend wisely (which we have done IMO) and absolutely go for the CL. At least then when Bale went we would have the CL to draw people in. Now we have a boat load of cash and no CL. We can't attract the players of the calibre we want/need and getting top 4 is gonna be very, VERY tough.

If we failed then fair enough, bye Bale, we are where we are now.

Either that or we should have spent last summer.

United were very strong though mate without Ronaldo. Plus, United were pretty much the best team in the country so players would still love to play for them with or without Ronaldo.

I personally think selling Bale is a bad move for us as. Even if the bid is phenomenal, you can't replace a player like Gareth Bale. It's all well and good people saying we can buy him, him and him to replace Bale but would top players want to join a club who's not in the CL and just sold their star asset? It doesn't send out the best of messages. With Berbatov, Modric and Carrick in the past, while they've been our best players at the time, they've not been considered one of the best in the world like Bale, I really think letting Gareth go will have massive implications.

I don't disagree with any of you! I don't want to see him leave either, obviously!

    It's a very difficult one.

If we do get £100 million (€120 million AS as reported figure).

I would like us to pocket half of it for the new stadium and reinvest half in the squad.

Rumours were Levy was going to spend £50 million regardless to back the manager (I assume most of this from new TV deal).

    Transfers to date:

    Paulinho - £17 million
    Chadli - £7.5 million
    Soldado - £26 million
    Caulker - (£8 million)
    Dos Santos - (£3.5 million).

    Total nett spend £39 million.

If we clear out Huddlestone, Parker and a few other fringe players we could get another £10 million.

Thus giving £60 million to spend.

And I think we'll have to spend at least that Hugo.

The fact that it'll be public knowledge that we have loads of money, could well cause problems for us. No more "levy" deals in this window I fear!

On who though? We need a CB desperately now, but who? (assuming this romanian chap is off so with the injuries we might need 2!)
The best in other postions i can think of is Eriksen. Reportedly available but he sounds like a sensible chap, will he want to join a non-CL team where he will be undoubtebly labelled "Bale's replacement"?

Like the mirror article the other day said, lots of the best players have moved this window already. Who is left, good enough, available and willing to come? The list is small.

it was, but due to our parameters. If we've got a bucket full of cash, ones we thought we'd never get, might just be come a possibility all of a sudden. You just don't know in football, and Levy could well pull off another VDV.

I suppose our parameters might have changed in that we are settling for less now too.

There are always players out there. We have to be realistic we will not attract world beaters. We will have to target younger up coming players like Halilovic.

There is no way we lack ambition that's complete bullshit. We have turned down every single offer but it's now got to the point that Bale said he wants to leave and Madrid are willing to break the WORLD RECORD fee paid for a player. I also think people are getting carried away with how good Bale is. I've said it before and ill say it again:- at times last year, in fact most of last year, his passing was sloppy, his crosses didn't find a man, he dribbled into blind alleys and he was shooting from 40 yards out at the byline with 4 players open in the middle. I'm not going to lie he also had moments of sheer genius no one could repeat which is almost priceless (ALMOST).

Going back to what Roo said about united and Ronaldo.... Ronaldo scored over 40 goals in his last season, popped up with tonnes of assists, was good with both feet, played some ingenious passes and had incredible vision, had skills that could completely bamboozle defenders, was an absolute monster in the air (attacking an defending). He was a complete player and was sold for LESS than what Is being offered for Bale even though he was twice the player in terms of overall play.

So does that mean United are 'unambitious' for selling Ronaldo? Like **** it does. Then ask yourself how did they do since he left? I don't need to answer that. And on that point it's worth mentioning that if we bring in Soldado our 'post bale' squad will be better than uniteds 'post Ronaldo' squad, especially with a couple of additions with the bale money.

People also seem to think Bale is our only world class player. Clubs interested in our players

Lloris - France captain widely viewed as one of best keepers in the world
Vertonghen - Wanted by a number of clubs and is again viewed as one of the best cbs in the world
Paulinho - Some of the biggest clubs in the world were interested (see Madrid, Arsenal)
Lennon - Some people don't seem to realise Lennon's reputation - He is well known across the continent and one of our better players
Sandro - An absolute monster and the breaker of the Brazil national team
Dembele - Admittedly faded a little last season but was wanted by Chelsea and United last year before we got him
Chadli - Another one considered a good upcoming star (it shows ambition)
Holtby - German u21 captain (again it shows ambition and he's a very famous name already)
Adebayor - May have been awful last year but has played for Madrid, Arsenal, City - He's a big name in football
Soldado (if) - He is one of the highest rated forwards in Spain and has recently muscled Fabregas, Torres, Negredo and Villa out of the way of the Spanish national team.

    Oh and I almost forgot!

Baldini - One of the world's best and most sought after technical directors
AVB - One of the most famous managers in the world who again has been reportedly wanted by PSG, Madrid and Barcelona and has also spent time at Porto and Chelsea.
Cheers up chaps it's nowhere near as bad as people are making out.

Sorry, only stories where (1) an increase over the previous fictitious price is included and (2) a random player is mentioned as part of the deal can be entertained by reputable news sources.

But really, this is as credible, if not more so, than most of the cr*p we are hearing at the moment!

I just really want to know what the actual figure is that we're after. There's so many numbers flying around, it's beyond a joke.
