IMO, you have a couple of problems should you sell Bale: - like us, you're not in the CL so it is difficult to attract the best players. - Bale is reportedly on about £80k per week so it won't free up a lot of wages for three or four incoming players
Gareth Bale's move to Real Madrid has taken a step closer after the Tottenham star told Andre Villas-Boas he wants to join the La Liga side, talkSPORT understands. The 24-year-old reported for training on Wednesday morning and it's understood the former Southampton star held talks with the Portuguese boss about his future. Real Madrid have reportedly bid £85million for the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year and, despite Spurs' desire of an offer closer to £100m, Bale's request to leave will allow the deal to be concluded swiftly. The meeting appears to remove one of the last obstacles in front of the deal and Bale is widely expected to become a Real Madrid player in the coming weeks.
The first is, I grant you, a problem, and is the main reason we'd be losing Bale, in the first place. However, I don't see the second as being a problem created by Bale leaving. It's been the case, for some while now, that we've needed to strengthen in key areas all over the park, and we would have been looking to bring in at least 4 or 5 top players even if Bale stays.
I didn't mean that it would be a sudden problem, I meant that it wouldn't be a simple case of buying three or four players
We have apparently offered him £150k a week, so that has been budgeted for the coming season. Even if we use £20m for wages, still have an amount to spend.
Fair enough although if you use part of the incoming transfer fee to pay some wages, wouldn't that vastly reduce the budget you have for buying too? For example: £100k per week is £5.2m per year. Five year deal would cost £26m. If you get £85m for him, the wages of three average earning players would cost £78m of that budget but you would have the £39m that had been allocated for Bale's wages (assuming it would be a five year deal?). That would leave you guys with £46m to spend on three players? I've not even mentioned agent fees, signing on fees, etc. I guess this depends on the calibre of players and negotiation skills of Levy (no doubts here )
I guess Ancelotti isn't subject to this alleged spurs media blackout. He's come out this morning and said that Real are in talks with Bale to try and sign him. AVBs silence, as opposed to simply coming out and denying it, was as I mentioned, kind of illustrative of what was happening. But now it is confirmed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23526530 As for who spurs might sign with a reported £85m. That is speculative and as Gerrez mentions, that figure doesn't look quite so gregarious when you take into account the overall costs of signing players. Another factor is whether Spurs will be able to attract players anywhere near Bale's quality, given that they cannot offer CL football. Then there is the fact that selling clubs know that Spurs have lots of money, so will inflate the prices of their players. It's extremely unlikely that Spurs are simply going to go out and buy three top quality players this window with the Bale cash.
Why would Real Madrid's manager be affected when Notso clearly stated it applied to Spurs staff? Also, he was explaining why AVB, or anyone else at the club, couldn't deny anything even if it weren't true. Do try and read the posts if you're going to keep coming back here As for attracting players of Bale's quality, of course we can't, there are very few players as good as Bale and that's why he costs £85mill. Anyway, talks don't mean a done deal so put the champagne back on ice and put the cake away too.
I think that's the trouble Yid, nobody can just go out and buy 'another Bale'. He's one of those players who come along every few years and it has to be said, usually end up at either Real or Barca. I'm not doubting that you could do a lot of good stuff with £85m, but it's going to be difficult to persuade the best players to come to spurs without CL football. Transfer prices have been so inflated this window too, and with clubs knowing that Spurs have cash, it will add pressure in any negotiation. Having this sort of money is relative really. It's like house buying. You might have bought your house for £50k and sold it for £200k, but the house you want to buy was also bought for £50k and is now selling for £200k.
I fear for once you could be right, that's the same thing i've been saying, althought he is'nt gone yet
It is all speculative at the moment I agree, but Real seem to have a habit of getting their man. You might think I'm taking pleasure in all of this, but we've had to put up with this **** for years with our players being lured away by Real and Barca.
Well, we can't go out and buy another Bale as he is now, but we DID ACTUALLY BUY BALE, so we could buy another one. But, tbh, its bloody unlikely one will turn out as good again.
Remember we have mini Bale, it will be like watching Bale all over again, but I hope he also doesn't have the 24match winless run before he's appreciated!
Standard procedure for all debuts now should be a last minute introduction when we are at least 2 up. Wasn't the jinx broken by bringing bale on in injury time when we were 4 up or something?
Good thinking. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...me-beat-Tottenham-win-jinx-article367791.html just be careful clicking that link as bale praises redknapp and we know thats frowned upon
True, you bought Bale but you bought him as a LB and he looked awful for the first couple of seasons. Fair enough, he was very young too but my point is that Spurs had no idea what they were buying at the time and you got extremely lucky along the way. I could be wrong here but wasn't Bale played at LM as a emergency stop gap? However, I do agree with your sentiments; no player is bigger than the club
It's a step into the unknown if we have to replace Bale. There are always players out there at good prices but unfortunately it's not an exact science. Vertonghen, Benteke, Michu, Cazorla all look like bargains now but there was an element of risk to them at the time. Personally I want us to go for Lamela or if possible Hulk. The popular consensus on Hulk at the moment is that he's overrated and a waste of money. Then again it wasn't so long ago that Neymar was considered overrated by the same people. Fans are fickle. I'd be very pleased with Hulk, Avb knows him, has got the best out of him before and he's built for the Premier League. Eto'o struggled in Russia too, it's a **** place to be so I don't hold that against Hulk at all.
Bale never looked awful, people forget he looked fantastic in his first few games before he got injured, played a blinder against Fulham, scored a free kick in the north London derby, even in that winless run he was doing fine. He was always nailed on to be a star,.
