One factor in negotiating any fee - should he be sold - is that the price for any players Spurs are interested in will suddenly double. Another, though, is that Bale is unlikely to command the sort of fee suggested ever again in the future, especially if he doesn't agree to extend his contract. Levy isn't an emotional fan, but a level headed businessman. As I said earlier in the thread, no player is truly worth £80M+ - is it too much to refuse?
I don't believe they're offering 80 million, first of all. If they actually have it, I would be sorely tempted to take it, if we hadn't assured a number of people, certainly including Paulinho, and arguably including me and anyone else who has purchased a Spurs ticket, that Bale will be here this year. Since we have made that assurance, we can't in good conscience sell him.
I was going to say we'll get raped on any signings once clubs know what we've got (if he's sold!) As for his value, why would it not be the same, what difference does a year make when buying a 24/5 yr old? Didn't Ronaldo's price go up after keeping him the extra year...I don't recall a lesser bid, correct me if I'm wrong on that.
Because of his contractual position. The nearer the end, the greater the pressure to sell or risk losing the player for free at the end of it. Spurs bargaining position is at its highest now.
But what if he agrees to stay for another season, but doesn't sign the extension, reportedly offered to him last year? What will the offers be next summer? A lot less than now.
Er - no he doesn't and he'd be mad to do so. His transfer fee declines to nothing over three years while his value might even go up, so basically he pockets a third of £100m himself by leaving next year. Now I think of it, quite a good reason for him to stay...
What do you make of reports today that Bale left the Spurs training ground after telling AVB he wants to leave ? I know there are no direct quotes, but surely with all the reports that he wants out, either the player or his manager would have come out by now and denied it if it wasn't true ? http://www1.skysports.com/football/...rms-desire-to-leave-tottenham-for-real-madrid
hey Piskie What do you make of reports that Cazorla and Wilshire have beaten the **** out of each other on the training field and neither will play for Arsenal again? I've scoured the net for either of them denying this....
if he stayed and we got 4th then it would mean we haven't lost out overall if we had champions league football and any fee(next year) and Levy is brave enough to reject the bid, we can still be the winner in both a football and financial sense. Just a big risk and the realist in me say Bale wants out and it just a matter of days before this kicks off and he's gone.
I didn't miss it, wum. By the way, the only "sandy crack" around here is the space between your ears.
Surely if the reports about Bale wanting out weren't true though - and I appreciate that there are no direct quotes - but either he or AVB would simply come out and deny it ? Wouldn't it be better to nip it in the bud with one sentence, rather than let the speculation and uncertainty drag on through the window.
If the sorts of figures being banded about for Bale are true, then you would think that Levy must be tempted, knowing that next season he might be able to get Bale for a fraction of the price if Spurs miss out on CL football again.
I'm surprised you never put again in bold, so I'll try my best not to get forum rage Of course Levy will be tempted, it's a world record fee, we stand to make near to 75 million profit from what we paid from Southampton, how many clubs have turned down world record offers? but it depends on Bale, as if Bale wants to stay he stays, if he wants to go then Madrid won't give up and Levy will sell.
That's it in a nutshell. The intriguing thing is none of us know what's going on. Perhaps Madrid are just a stalking horse for Utd?
Here's one for PESKIE and all the other Gooner wums... Reports in the paper suggest that if we do sell Bale to Real we're lining up taking Goofy right from under Whinger's nose. Now, I'll be the first to say that I don't want the buck-toothed thug and his emotional baggage any where near Spurs, but if it pisses off you Gooners I might be tempted to give the git a cheer. You may say that the rumours are unfounded, but I have scoured the web and I cannot find either the player or his club denying them.
It's such an eye watering amount of money, it would be so hard to turn down. I agree though that it largely depends on Bale, if as reports suggest, he's already told Spurs he wants to join Real then it will really put the pressure on Levy to cash in now, rather than risk losing him a year later at fraction of that price. If though Bale wants to stay, then you can just tell Real to go and do one, but I would have thought that with all the stories coming out that Bale wants to leave, either he or AVB would have come out and nipped it in the bud by now, if it wasn't true.
