JLA ... if you have a smartphone, ipad, etc. download the tunein radio app, BBC Leeds streams on there. Otherwise, all you need to do is stream BBC Leeds via Internet. If it says you're not in UK, there is a VPN service you can get, £5 per month that spoofs your IP as a UK address, so you can run BBC iPlayer, ITV, Channel 4 etc. as if you live in UK. I use this when travelling, watched Burnley v Leeds live on BBC for example. Hope this helps.
Happy to see the back of Yorkshire Radio, though I felt the quality of coverage was decent it did add yet another barrier to listening for a lot of people. If LUTV still have live match commentary, I presume that Radio Leeds will be region specific (only broadcast on FM within that area unless selected as a feature game on 5live) and the game not broadcast online. The idea behind things like LUTV seems ok (for most people) but it's a headache for supporters like me, living in Northern Ireland, who want to head out to watch local football on a Saturday rather than sit at a computer screen. I'd still like to listen to the Leeds game at the same time though, as I'm sure the growing numbers who have to work on a Saturday around the rest of the country outside of the Radio Leeds FM signal's range might too. They really need to provide 'legit' means to access live match audio outside of Yorkshire to portable devices. The official club app for instance, it costs 2.99 but what extra does it provide that you can't access on the web with a smartphone? Perhaps they could combine the LUTV live match commentary audio with the app, and charge a bit more or a subscription? Or even better - give it away free and make the money by getting it sponsored! (best for building the brand whilst not constantly alienating the less well off among the fan base like Bates did). Hopefully something like this is in the pipeline. Am I right in thinking that LUTV currently only provides live audio coverage on match day as the visual coverage of games is delayed for some reason?
I live in the UK and use tunedin too. The problem tends to still happen that some clubs have regional constraints on live sporting events being broadcast. I tried to tune in to local BBC radio stations of the clubs we were playing against away last season and it was very rare to not here the 'sorry this show is not availible' spiel. The only times they seem to have it on is if one of the BBC's national stations is airing it - be it 5live or 5live extra. I hope that changes or the contract lets them put it online but with LUTV making money from getting people to listen through it, I doubt it.
Whatever is the outcome it's clear Yorkshire radio draining us of 700k a year is yet another luxury we couldn't afford to carry. Have to admire gfh for the ruthless manner they are quickly eliminating the parasites from the club. In a day of internet savvy supporters, I'm sure we'll all find a way of streaming matches.
If it is true that Yorkshire Radio cost £700k a year to run this represents about £13k a week which would pay another decent players wages, plus I'll bet BBC Radio Leeds will be paying for their broadcasting rights.
I doubt it would be that simple. The club statement seems to imply that at least some of the resources would be used elsewhere ("to concentrate the club's digital media output on LUTV"), that would surely incur costs. Plus I assume Yorkshire Radio brought in some advertising revenue which will be lost (at least in the short term). So even though it cost £700k a year to run (allegedly) I don't think the savings will amount to quite that much. But then I have my cynical hat on today, perhaps we will have a new player in the morning !
