Yeah when he first left he said he would consider coming back to Arsenal but I don't think he will leave Barcelona just yet.

It just doesn't make sense. His dream move to Barca and he leaves so soon and goes to a Man U team with David Moyes as manager? I just can't see it.

I can't think of any reason he would want to leave Barcelona for Manure, not like the trophies are worth more here. He will have opportunity to win stuff at Barcelona and have a shot at the CL which he may not have in England. In any case, he's not our player and if he ever decides to leave Barcelona I am sure Wenger will have something to say about it.

He hasn't exactly been quick to say he wants to stay

I don't know why Cesc would spend £5.5M on a house in Belgravia if he was planning on moving to Manchester.

Apparently because the house is valued at £7.5m so he can flip it for an instant £2m profit (maybe more if he uses his celebrity).

To piss off his girlfriend's ex-husband and to turn a tidy profit.

He is not selling the house, his girlfriend lives there.

His partner lives in the house, but she was ordered to sell it in her divorce settlement, so that it could be split up. Her ex-hubby challenged it in court, when he heard that it was Cesc that was buying it, and that it was for 2M under "market" value. The judge just ruled in Cesc's favour and the sale has gone through.

The purchase of the house is probably less significant than the fact that his partner and child live in London and really, really don't want to move.

12. Alonso loves Liverpool, he won't be returning. C.Ronaldo loves Man Utd, he won't be returning. RvP loves Arsenal, he ****ed off to Man Utd. I'm sure there are many more examples too.

As I said above, I like Arsenal but don't can't your chickens before they have hatched <ok>

13. This 'money owed' argument is rubbish IMO. It makes no difference at all.

I don't know the figures but if Barca owe £10m to Arsenal and Cesc is worth £40m (whoever they sell him to), it doesn't matter if he goes to Arsenal or someone else. They still get £40m and still owe £10m and are therefore £30m in the black, irrelevant of the club he joins!

14. Retirement fund? <laugh>

Seriously though, what is £5.5m to someone like Fabregas?

@gerrez - i didn't say it will make them want to sell to us, just that it is another factor to include. Obviously either way we get to go straight to talking to the player due to the clause, so its either just us, or us and utd competing for his signature if he leaves.

And £5.5mil is still a lot of money for most people even if they are football players :p

16. I never said you did say he would join (here we go again <laugh>) but there are a fair few on here that seem to think its a given which clearly it isn't.

Fair point about £5.5m being a lot but it isn't to Cesc when you consider he is Spanish and therefore it will probably be his home once he does retire, it is an investment <ok>

PS...Rafa still has his home on Merseyside but he's lived in Milan, London and now Naples since <ok>

There are a limited number of clubs he could go to. Im referring specifically to Arsenal or Manchester United at this point in time. Logically speaking, it would make no sense for him to move to Manchester United now. If there's some other reason why he would, perhaps I don't know about it? RVP never loved Arsenal either. If he did, he wouldn't have started talking to rival clubs six months before his eventual departure, that's pretty clear. Someone like Thierry Henry, who gave us his best years, showed the way to act with grace and dignity when leaving the club that's supported you all your life.

18. I don't go along with that view. Why can't a player love rival clubs? As fans it is the ultimate sin but for foreign players I can't see the issue. I'm sure I got as pissed off with Torres for going to Chelsea as you did with RvP going to Man Utd but these things happen. The world of a footballer is different. Sir Matt busby loved bot Liverpool and Man Utd for example. Doesn't Sol Campbell love you and Spurs? It happens.

Having a quick look at Fabregas and it's quite interesting that he has either won or come 2nd in every competion in england and spain as well as the cl, euro super cup and cwc. Not to mention the euros and world cup. His medal haul must be quite impressive to look at! And he really has played at the very top of the game (spanish and english leagues being the top 2 in europe over the last 5-10 years).

Arsenal

Winner
FA Cup: 2005
FA Community Shield: 2004

Runner-up
UEFA Champions League: 2006
Premier League: 2004–05
Football League Cup: 2007, 2011
FA Community Shield: 2005

Barcelona

Winner
La Liga: 2012–13
Copa del Rey: 2012
Supercopa de España: 2011
UEFA Super Cup: 2011
FIFA Club World Cup: 2011

Runner-up
La Liga: 2011–12
Supercopa de España: 2012

National team

Winner
FIFA World Cup: 2010
UEFA European Championship: 2008, 2012

Runner-up
FIFA Confederations Cup: 2013
FIFA U-17 World Championship: 2003
UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship: 2004

20 Winner and Runner-Up medals in the best competitions in the world.... And he is in his early-mid twenties still. I think it's important that he has won a lot in his career despite being quite young as he is more likely to give his time to a club he really wants to win things with rather than chase a big payday or like a lot of players there one chance at being in a massive team and winning trophies. He has already played with the invincibles, Messi-era Barca and one of the best International sides ever. Will he be motivated by money, more trophies, or to become a legend at a club having already reached a very high level in football?

I don't know. He is just quite an interesting case as his circumstances are very different to most other players, particularly ex-arsenal players.

The cases I mentioned were specific to those individuals. RVP showed no loyalty to Arsenal when after years of injury he disppeared after his first full fit season. But I am not getting involved in a loyalty argument now.
