"We are working every day to sign a striker" http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-jol-targets-striker-to-help-dimitar-berbatov
Undoubtedly because of this post-match comment we are again being linked to Darren Bent. Could be because of not so good rumours from Italy as well though, and picked up by the Times: âFulham are set to move for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent, 29, after discovering Italy forward Pablo Osvaldo, 27, intends to stay at Roma, reports the Timesâ Source: http://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/sport/football/newcastle-utd/fulham-to-battle-it-out-with-newcastle-for-villa-star-bent-as-chelsea-get-set-to-bid-for-manchester-united-s-rooney-1-5899929 The Bardsley story equally has re-appeared - âThe defender has been back on Wearside training with the reserves, having been left out of the Italianâs squad for the pre-season Asia Trophy in Hong Kong. Bardsley admitted earlier this month his time at Sunderland is up and it is believed he would prefer a move to London.â Source: http://www.clicklancashire.com/sport/blackburn-rovers-fc/1214719-blackburn-rovers-rival-newcastle-united-and-fulham-for-sunderland-full-back-bardsley.html Also a number of papers saying we are interested in Chelseaâs 18 year old Nathan Ake. He was on the bench a couple of times last year and ⦠âthe teenager, who joined from Feyernoord in 2011, has turned down an offer from Vitesse Arnhem with returning boss Jose Mourinho believed to be keen on giving some of his youngsters a chance next season.â â¦apparently on loan however Source: http://www.clicklancashire.com/sport/wigan-athletic-fc/1214721-wigan-athletic-rival-middlesbrough-and-fulham-for-chelsea-starlet-ake.html Although a talented midfield prospect, I canât see him walking into our first team and canât see either he or Chelsea being interested in him spending time in our U21s.
The Times are reporting that we have upped our bid for Darren Bent. Nooooo ... apart from anything else what about his wages??? Thankfully they also say Newcastle are meeting with his Agent. "Fulham and Newcastle United are vying for Darren Bent’s signature. The London club submitted an improved bid to Aston Villa yesterday for the striker and Joe Kinnear, the director of football at St James’ Park, is due to meet Bent’s representatives this week. After having a £4 million offer for Bent rejected at the weekend, Fulham have responded with a bid closer to Villa’s valuation of £6 million for the player." would much rather take Gomis for around 7m than Bent for 6m. Gomis has consistently scored over 10 goals in Ligue 1 and has a couple years on Bent with lower wages.
n1ck Could not agree more, and i would also like to see some of our talented youngsters on the bench for game time
The Mail are reporting that we are trying to get Walter Gargano on a year loan with an option to buy. "Fulham have held talks with Napoli midfielder Walter Gargano's representatives in the past 48 hours over a loan move to the Premier League. Gargano is surplus to requirements in Serie A, after failing to earn a permanent switch to Inter Milan last season following a loan spell. The 29-year-old is back on the loan list with a view to a £6m permanent move next summer, alerting both Fulham and Atletico Madrid. The Cottagers have moved first and planned further negotiations with Gargano's agent Alessandro Lucci in the next 24 hours, according to the Daily Mail. During his time at the San Siro last season Gargano passed 200 appearances in Italian football, while also holding 56 caps for Uruguay."
Looks like we've lost Junior Malanda which would explain why it had all gone quiet. "Junior Malanda is set to snub Fulham and sign for Wolfsburg. The defensive midfielder was said to be close to joining Martin Jol's side, who expected talks over a switch to Craven Cottage. Wolfsburg, though, have joined the race and have proposed signing the 18-year-old and then loaning him back to Zulte-Waregem. The Belgian side are happy with the offer on the table and the deal is expected to be concluded soon." How typical. Maybe they were pissed at the fact we managed to get something out of both Dejagah and Riether? Expect Osvaldo and Gargano to say no too.
Well, I'm sorry that we're missing out on what sounds like a very promising player, but part of me isn't too upset. His antics when he was trying to get a move didn't appeal to me. At the very least, he had the potential to become a disruptive presence in the squad.
The guy plays in the Belgian league and there was a PL side interested in buying him, what player wouldn't dig his heels in over wanting to move? This is the 21st century, gone are the days where players shut up and moved where they were told to. Malanda is a huge miss from our perspective. No doubt we will go back to identifying 30+ year old targets to 'run' our midfield now. Maybe entice Thomas Gravesen out of retirement? I'm sure Jol could entice him with the same FFC pension plan he's got Karagounis and Diarra on. How the hell have we lost out to Wolfsburg anyway? I know the Bundesliga is on the rise, but they're not one of the teams responsible, and are hardly a Dortmund, Bayern or even Hamburg. For once it was nice to be linked with someone under 28 who could slot straight into the team. New chairman, same old Fulham.
No, but it's clear to anyone that's seen Malanda play (be it in person or online) that he is exactly what we are needing in the centre midfield. Young, energetic, strong and creative. A younger Dembele if you will. Of course there's no guarantee he would have excelled here but for the price quoted and his age having considerable sell on value if he failed, it was always worth a shot, and for the club to abandon the chase because of his circumstance with his club is ridiculous, even moreso now that he's gone back on loan to them for the season, so there was obviously not as big underlying problem. Jol is trying to bring down the average age but we are chasing players like Bent? Who has had his disputes with clubs in the past. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
I've not seen anything concrete about Bent. I'd be surprised if he comes to us. We're just a bargaining chip to him.
We've had TWO bids for him rejected, the last of which was believed to be £4m. Now contemplating a THIRD offer.
Jesus H Christ Bandit, did somebody **** in your cereal this morning? Also, I don't think you're like Rosc at all, at least you appear when the team is doing well, when usually Rosc is nowhere to be found...
I'm just frustrated is all. I'd have preferred Malanda over both Gargano and Osvaldo, both of which come with an element of risk despite their obvious quality. Malanda could have been a future star for us and right now would be the creative spark in midfield that has been lacking since Dembele left/Diarra got injured. I just want us to sign a bloody creative midfielder! Surely Jol knows this is what is needed so why haven't we moved to secure one already?
As he keeps saying Bidley, "there's only one Bandit". Keep on the munchies though Bandit, I'm with you on this one. Just nit picking, but our first bid for Bent was £4m and the second £6m (allegedly). And as you say, the papers today are full of us thinking about making a third - some even say we are playing "cat and mouse" with Villa. Makes you want to switch to shreddies!
