Joey Barton approaches Everton to suggest transfer and is willing to halve his wages to join them 30 Jul 2013 22:31 Controversial QPR midfielder grew up supporting the Toffees and has now contacted their manager Roberto Martinez himself. Joey Barton wants to play for his beloved Everton - and will take a 50 per cent pay-cut to make the move happen. Barton is back at Queens Park Rangers after a year in exile on loan at French side Marseille, and Hoops boss Harry Redknapp is even considering playing him in Saturday's Championship season opener against Sheffield Wednesday. But the fiery midfielder has made contact with the Goodison club's new manager Roberto Martinez to ask if they want him. Barton grew up on Merseyside as an Everton fan and is dreaming of a sensational switch in his characteristically unpredictable but single-minded style. Talks about a massive pay-off at QPR to make a return to Marseille financially viable are faltering, leaving Barton to consider his dream option. And the 30-year-old has now told the Toffees that he would accept half of his current £70,000-a-week salary to make it happen. Barton is even willing to join Everton for training to prove that his fitness matches his desire - and Martinez is giving the idea serious thought. The controversial star has been a target for the blue half of Merseyside many times before, with David Moyes often looking into the idea during his reign. Finance was a problem in the past, but now Barton could help to make it happen. QPR would be happy to get the former Manchester City and Newcastle man - whose last appearance for them was the notorious day when he was sent off at Man City on the final day of the 2011-12 season - off their payroll. Barton was cast out by then-boss Mark Hughes and although he respects successor Redknapp, an exit is still the best outcome. Martinez is looking for additions to his squad and has to be interested in Barton for nothing and on a reduced wage. The Everton manager heads out to America for a pre-season tour with that thought in mind - as Barton crosses fingers that his own fairytale comes true. Willie McKay has approached Everton manager, Robero Martinez with a proposal to half his £70,000 a week wages at QPR to join his boyhood team. Willie said to The Mirror: "I spoke to Roberto [Martinez] to see if he would be interested in taking Joey," McKay is quoted in the Daily Mail. "I told him that Joey would love to join Everton and that they are the only club he willing to lose money to play for." They won't take him. And Joey not willing to lose money playing for anyone else. Look like we are stuck with him
Norway, please don't take anything a football agent, and especially Willie McKay (who drives while banned with cocaine in his car), at face value.
Cheers SB No you're right, he can't say anything else of course. It shows though that TF drives a hard bargain, Barton should get as little as possible to **** off.
It would be like the anti-christ sticking his head up out of purgatory and coming up for air ............... Where's a crucifix when you want one!
It's great this. We don't want the idiot and nor do the Everton faithful, great reading the comments from Everton supporters: http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/ouch-nobody-on-evertons-reddit-page-wants-joey-barton-at-their-club/
We don't want that bell end anywhere near our beloved club. He's a total disgrace, both to English football & his city of birth. There's no way on Earth the vast majority of Evertonians would accept us signing the sewer rat.
Still no response from the management team or the board at Everton. Expect a response in the next few days when they have stopped laughing.
