i was talking about kane! butterfield was a calculated risk. he was injured but had massive potential. i totally get why he was signed. becchio was a convenient move as it took morison away from the club. becchio wasn't fit enough last season but given a summer on our fitness regime i reckon he'll be a much more useful presence. don't get me wrong, he's never going to score 15 goals in the premier league but he does bring a nice touch and a little awareness along with dogged hard work and decent hold up play. last season holt was the only player hughton trusted to do the job to scratch. i doubt we'll play 2 up front every game but there will be more flexibility within the squad, more talent and inevitably the manager will be helped by having his own players around him
Chris Hughton has done superb in management and after looking like you was in for a hard season last year he put a run of results together and gave you a good season. After signing players like Fer, Redmond, Hooper and VW I think you will have a very good season. I think you will challenge the likes of Liverpool and Everton for the top 6 but I think you will just fall short. All the best lads
Re. Kane, if you rewind twelve months I think you'll find he was being touted as ready to make the step up at Spurs. He featured in their pre-season and came on as a sub in their first PL game, away at Newcastle. Given that CH had concentrated on strengthening our defence, I don't think taking Kane on loan was inexplicable. Certainly didn't turn out well for either party, but that happens, and it was Kane who suffered most.
Na, we probably wont find out until the start of the season. Only a handful will be known. Hoopers number at the moment will be 10 I would say, depending on if we bring in another one who could fill that spot!
Yeah, I doubt he would have that here as it was a link to your club. Unless he wants to carry on using the number lol
Sunderland fan in peace! Really looking forward to seeing you guys in action this year. You have made some real astute signings and are going about your business under the radar. I reckon you could be the suprise package of the season and could be sitting quite comfortably in the top half. Best of the luck for the forthcoming season (apart from against us).
Squad numbers will be announced next month - probably before the first friendly against Real Sociedad.
He will score goals on any patch of grass ...believe me It's the other aspects of his play that may surprise you. A top player now bye HOOPS 88.
Thanks, I feel the same about Sunderland, some great signings. Good pre-season win against Spurs, looking good!
it was also something to do with Hoopers favourite number being 8. But Howson wears that shirt so i think he will be 10 for now unless someone comes in (Quagiarella), then he might go for 88 again?? Personally id quite like him to have 88
Do I remember hearing somewhere that no squad numbers from 40 to 99 can be allocated unless all of the numbers from 1 to 39 have been assigned? I may have completely made that up/dreamt it though. In the Prem I mean.
A player may wear any number from 1-99 as long as it is unique within their squad. The highest number worn by any player in the premier league was 62 worn by Abdul Razzak of Man City against West Brom on 5 February 2011. Howewver, the Premier League can refuse allocated squad numbers - Patrick Mboma wanted number 70 while on loan at Sunderland in 2002, to represent his birth year, but this was not allowed. I knew all that already. Didn't google it at all, no, no.
I don't think that's true, Lee Camp was #42 last season (http://www.myfootballfacts.com/Norwich_City_Squad_Numbers.html)
Yeah I'm pretty sure I must have dreamt it. Although, had we assigned all numbers from 1-39 last year?
