Fair enough. I got distracted after having started the post and then pressed reply without realising I hadn't finished it. Hence the lack of a full stop. I just meant to point that out incase you didn't realise. I like the article though, if anyone's going to keep Real at bay it's Levy. It's a good job we've got Levy too, we know Paulinho and AVB were assured Bale would stay and there could well be others too.
On Soldado - with Valencia going to the US on tour this weekend, if he gets on that plane I think we're done. Anyone want to predict it ending like Friends did - Levy and Baldini tearing towards the airport to stop him and going to the wrong airport? *Back at WHL* Levy - 'did he get off the plane, did he get off the plane?!' Soldado - 'I got off the plane!' *Cue cheering not606-ers'
Some local Valencia journalist (who admittedly has been pretty on the ball so far) has just tweeted that Soldado should be done tomorrow. About friggin time if true.
I read this morning that Soldado is keeping quite about his future, fueling speculation that nothing has been agreed yet
Interesting side note here to all the Bale speculation - Saints in line for a big pay-off if he goes cos, as it turns out, any club who had a hand in developing a player gets a cut of all future transfer fees. Didn't know that. Apparently there was never a sell-on clause that was bought out when we settled early with Saints either. http://www.basingstokegazette.co.uk/sport/10581204._/ Interesting and refreshing to note that the reporter actually makes clear that he's getting his information from a source in the boardroom AND even corroborates the facts by citing a second source. (This really should not be interesting or refreshing). Checking facts with a second source? Making clear that your information is coming from a source in the boardroom not just saying "it's believed..." or "it's been reported..."? What is this? The nineties? Journalism A-level? No - it's the Basingstoke Gazette. I mean - I just read an article by a sports journalist and: 1) Felt I'd learned something 2) Believed every word. Gordon Simpson, senior sports reporter for the Basingstoke Gazette, take a bow.
Basingstoke Gazette is quite a good paper, with a good sports section,we get it in Andover as we are only 19 miles apart,10 minutes up the m3
Not really, players are obviously told to 'no comment' while negotiations are ongoing. I do wonder why they're expected to say something, its not their place to keep the public up to date.
He should get a "real journalism" medal, seriously! Sadly he's not going to get a job with the national papers with his novelty ideas of "doing research" is he. Just waiting today for another few million to be added to the price and other people added in the deal (by the papers of course). Anyone remember the old Not the Nine O'Clock News sketch... "and the swivel chair to take home at the weekends".
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/gareth-bale-transfer-tottenham-sell-2106285 This sums up very well what I've been trying to say. I don't care about the money, it's the buzz you get from the opportunity to see one of the greats of the current generation of football players playing at the Lane. If we still have him at the end of the transfer window Levy will be a hero.
Posted this on the journo thread by mistake: Reports suggesting Bale won't submit transfer request due to relationship with fans. Well done fans and well done Bale (if true)
