    This reminds me of a time in the Falklands just after the war in the early 80's. The locals were known as 'Bennies' due to similarities to a particularly dim Crossroads character, Bennie (it was a popular teatime soap at the time). Orders came down from on high - the troops were not to refer to the Falkland Islanders as 'Bennies'. They then became known as 'stills' until a senior officer asked wtf was a 'still'. "Cos they're still f*ckin' bennies." was the reply.
