Driving back from near Southampton to Midlands yesterday evening I caught most of 5 Live's Monday Night Club. Really interesting (and long) discussion about the way the transfer market works now; 'loyalty' - from players to clubs and from clubs to players; the role of agents and the fact that clubs use them as much as players; the transfer market as entertainment; big clubs' exploitation of the media to get their man/pressurise players to leave; the fact that, for the vast majority of players, its a job. David Pleat (who was lamenting the lack of effort put in to finding talent in the lower leagues in England rather than the endless search of bargains from abroad) and Jason Roberts (especially on the tricks clubs play on players) were very good. Its on iPlayer if you have the time. In a strange way I found it stress relieving - this is a circus and no one is really in control.
Was obviously a long drive with esp with the result being stuck in the midlands.....! aint that Birmingham ?

We are carrying a few of those "dead" parrots in our squad - great analogy describing some of our players.
