I don't think Bale would handle it, either. Imagine it. No matter how level-headed Bale is, the crowd will be expecting him to work miracles every game. Of course, that is an impossibility. When the miracles don't happen (and they'll happen far less for Bale in Spanish football than they do in English football - that's just the way football is played over there) the crowd will be on his back, a new manager will come in, Bale will get benched, and then there will be the Carroll-esque embarrassment of "what do we do with a player that cost us a king's ransom?" Except that it will be a Carroll-esque problem of Biblical proportions. I doubt that anyone is advising Bale of the very grave mistake that he is about to make in his career, least of all our scum-bag hack journos. Who cares about the human element to all of this when there is a sensational story to fabricate?
CR7 would complete his facial transformation into Lee Evans if it happened. But so funny to see La Marca inventing their version of what was probably a very polite yet succinct rebuff on any Madrid offer this summer.
What I don't get is why he is actually interested in real? He's a top player who could play for anyone. Real aren't exactly appealing, having lost a top manager and are in a bit of a transition period. If if was Bayern, I'd completely understand. But IMO, real aren't exactly "stable" at the moment. - what's so appealing? Money yes, but he could get that anywhere...
I think the same but airing such a view is likely to get other fans calling us deluded. Like i said earlier, are they actually likely to win much? Barca are still the better team. Cup at best, bit like Spurs. He might not even want to live in Spain, nobody knows.
The story going around is that he wants to talk to them. How funny would it be at the end of that conversation he said thanks, but no thanks?
What is really sad though is Real possibly offering this obscene amount of money when Spain as a nation is in such difficulties. Did anyone see Top Gear a few weeks back? Hardly a documentary of course, but did give some idea of what difficulties the country is in. And how do Real keep themselves afloat anyway - not through revenue generated at the turnstiles, don't they get some kind of "assistance" from the government?
The neutral in me would love to see Bale at Barca (Bale + Neymar + Messi) . The humanitarian in me thinks PSG would be the best place (less culture shock, getting back to his clan in Wales easier etc) .
" Just hope he doesn't get sold to Utd after a year (if he goes) " Levy clauses. And he'll still have the cash to buy him back too.
So much about this is so farcical. I read a comparatively balanced and factual account which said that while Levy had held the line on Modric, this was different. What's different about it? The fabulous amount of money Real is offering--which, the article went on to admit, Real doesn't have and isn't offering. So nothing's different about it, in other words. Levy's reported rejection has already morphed into Real offering 125 million, which is very funny in and of itself. One report claims its Di Maria and Coentrao plus 57 million. So Di Maria and Coentrao are reckoned to be worth 68 million. The actual math is that Di Maria and Coentrao are owed (a reported ?) 90 million in salary on their contracts, which nobody is willing to take off Real's hands. So Spurs would be taking on 90 million in debits to get 57 million in credits. They'd be handing over 33 million for the privilege of giving Real one of the three best players in the world. It would be very considerate of Spurs, really, to pay Bale's salary while he plays at Real, which is what the deal amounts to. What a sweet deal. I can't understand why Levy isn't going for it.
I agree with you're saying there mate but I suppose from a footballers' perspective, who would you rather play for - Spurs or Real?
at this point in time i'd be fairly happy if Levy went public with a cash-only, up-front price for Bale. End all this ****. Stump up the cash, we'll leave it up to Bale, otherwise lets get something else in the papers. I reckon even if he said £80m (£92m including the money from Modric) that Real wouldn't be able to get their hands on it (up front remember, and no players)
"So much about this is so farcical. ..." As good as it can be put. Madrid cannot afford Bale at even a sensible price. But to protect Perez from the fury of his plastics, La Marca mouthpiece have claimed Spurs want an absurd amount. An amount they valiantly tried to meet 'sensibly' by offering 50m cash + di Maria + Coentrao. One thing Perez has completely done Levy on, is the scale of his "at least we tried" . Makes the Aguero 'pursuit' look totally realistic.
Let's not kid ourselves, here, lads. Real in its arrogance, genuinely believed that it could get Bale on the cheap by simply letting it be known through their not-so-subtle tapping-up techniques that the mighty Real wanted Bale to play for them, and that that would be all it took for Bale to hand in a transfer request. After all, it worked fine with Rat-Boy. Trouble is, they did not understand that the only reason why Levy was prepared to sell them Rat-Boy was to scupper the ungrateful twat's move to CFC; it was not to be taken as having set any kind of precedent. Oh, by the way, I genuinely hope that Levy has told Perez to shove his "special relationship" up his arse.
Can we just go through the maths on this. If a player is on 100k/wk, thats 5m a year (rounded down from 5.2 to keep it simple). If you say 90m in wages is owed to 2 players, lets say 45 each. On 5m a year that means it would take 9 yrs to earn 45m....just how old are Coentrao and Di Maria??
Don't be surprised if Levy gets Coentrao on the cheap merely so Madrid can avoid paying the Modric money owed +/- not being preferred buyer when Bale finally goes.
If they need to offload players to avoid paying a measly £12m how the hell do they expect to buy Bale?
