<laugh> Funny a Liverpool fan turning about wood and expense when their team last season signed Carroll for £35 million.

i've always defended carrick he is a very good footballer with a great range of passing and technique. it's weird how he get's so much criticism for being outplayed by xavi and iniesta when real madrid's supposedly world class mifield has been humiliated several times by them over the last couple of years. it's fletcher, anderson and gibson who just aren't good enough to be playing regularly. we badly need a top top class attacking playmaker like modric and a proper defensive midfielder like m'vila.

He is slated because he is average and doesn't excel in anything. He is an all round decent midfielder, but he wouldn't look out of place in a mid table team. When has he ever won a match. Scholes wins matches, Rooney wins them, Hernandez wins them, even John O'shea grabs an important goal here or there. If he had a top midfielder next to him it would be fine, Carrick would trot about, intercept the ball and lay it off. But he simply doesn't control the midfield. That is not good enough for Man Utd.

Er, the first leg of the CL against Chelsea? It was Carrick's ball into space on the left that turned the entire Chelsea defence so Giggs could cut it back for Rooney to score.

Carrick doesn't control midfield, but he was never meant to. He was bought to play alongside Scholes in the centre, and did so very successfully for the first three seasons he was with us. I don't think it's a coincidence that his poorer performances over the last two seasons have been a direct result of Scholes dropping much deeper and occupying the same space Carrick usually plays in.
