My biggest thing with the numbers is that probably the last two years he was the main man at Spurs and being the main man I think helped boost his stats. If he goes to Real, NO chance he is the main guy that takes all the FK's, gets the ball all the time etc. He will add a different element to that team ( Ronaldo and Bale on the wings is a lot of pace, power, goals, trickery, etc, pretty scary actually).
As Tobes pointed out, a thoughtful manager can nullify bale. Though you will have to sacrifice attacking elements, or rather counter attacking effectiveness to deal with him, Ronaldo is a much tougher prospect to nullify as he can do damage from pretty much anywhere. Ronaldo's presence would certainly make Bale more effective imo, much more freedom, at Spuds he's the main threat and treated as such by the opposition
The flip side of the coin. But will someone who has tasted that limelight be able to take the back seat again? Mental games and all that. Also could throw in there what numbers could Bale put up with better players around him argument as well.
Who were the Spurs fans who came here and said that Bale definitely wont be going anywhere? I wanna wum a little.
Yeah true, there are many eventualities, like him improving from playing with better players for a start, a lesser Madrid destroyed Spurs not so long ago in the CL. he could only learn from playing with the likes of Ronaldo, if he doesn't **** his pants Better players have bottled a move out of their home league
pretty sure there are a whole host of them on the spurs board. Post it in the mouser thread, it'll fit right in there
no, you're only allowed wum LFC fans there As soon as you actually get to the Spuds fans they throw a fit and want you banned
I saw a graphic yesterday which compared Bale to Suarez. Suarez had more goals, more assists, better minutes per goal, more chances created - Yet Bale is valued at almost double the price ... Now surely Suarez's attitude cannot devalue him that much ...
There is also a stat that shows if you take them out their respective teams, only one club drops down the league and its not us I think age (not that Luis is old) and baggage come into it.
True but we would have dropped points if we take out Suarez's goals/assists. We finished 12 points ahead of the next team so dropping positions is an unfair comparison. Spurs finished 5 points ahead of Everton.
That's exactly what I said when I read the stat My point was more that stats are pointless and can be made to look however you want them too. The stats for Suarez v Bale would also show that Luis has a god awful shots to goals ratio, they would show that Luis creates chances but very rarely gets an assist from them as he tries to do it alone (not as much as Bale last season mind).
True but in terms of key stats i.e. goals and assists (real contributions in a match), Suarez is ahead of Bale but I can't understand the massive gulf in valuations.
I don't think there is, it's all media talk and rumours right now - I am 99% sure that Real Madrid do not value Gareth Bale at £85-£100 million pound.
I think they would be willing to pay £80m for him because that's what they like doing - splashing out and making big statements. Spurs drive a hard bargain and Levy is incredibly stubborn, but he is a damn good negotiator. Real have already spent about £60m already. If they get Bale, it would go up to £140m ... have they got enough left to buy Suarez? ...
nice! hey... bale.. 1. london club, london media 2. suarez, damaged goods always was... how did we get a world cup star if he was not??? 3. Bale aint worth 50mil. lets be clear conaldo went for 80 cos he scored 40+ goals, won CLs and titles and was a top international... bale is a converted full back with a kick like a mule and a face to match running about headlessly in the english league without a medal to his name (unless you count a league cup runners up medal). how can anyone justify a welsh player worth 50mil cos he sure as hell aint going to sell shirts. 4. I REALLY hope southampton have a 50% sell on clause buried somewhere.
The hype about him is simply astounding - fantastic season yes but come on, world record transfer fee for this guy? I think not.
I have a massive gripe against players like Bale, Walcott etc. Take away their pace, they're nothing. Someone like Messi and Ronaldo have pace but take it away, they still have the skill, intelligence, technique to still cause damage. Someone like Suarez doesn't have pace - he wasn't lucky enough to be born with that genetic characteristic but he is so good technically that he can play without speed.
