Dutch football magazine Voetbal International reports that Celtic and Ajax are getting close to an agreement on the transfer of 26 year old winger Derk Boerrigter to Celtic. Boerrigter is on his way to Glasgow on Monday to undergo a medical. Boerrigter was sidetracked last season and doesn't seem to appear to be part of the plan manager Frank de Boer has for Ajax this season. With the arrival of Bojan from Barcelona, Ajax is willing to sell the winger who arrived in Amsterdam in 2011 from RKC Waalwijk. Boerrigter has a contract with Ajax till 20014. Well, we signed a "winger" who had lost his place in the team at a top dutch club in 1997. That worked out not bad
Youtube says this... Looks the part but we'll need to see him come on for the last 10 minutes of a friendly before we can say with absolute certainty if he is a dud or not. May I be the first to start the rumour that he has a twin brother and we signed the wrong one?
Have to say that Cove knows what he is talking about. Very well written articles, and a high percentage of what he says might/could happen normally does. Certainly kept us well informed when we were tracking our 'imports'
The low down may not be something you would like to read, it's not that positive. At Ajax, I found him inept for the technical game they played at the Amsterdam Arena. His first touch and crossing in particular are horrible to start. He has decent pace but a quick defender can easily keep up with him. In other words, he was simply not good enough to play at Ajax or any other sub top club in the Eredivisie. When I saw him on the pitch I always got aggravated and after 3 or 4 games in the 2011-2012 season I already came to the conclusion that I hated the player. His decision making, vision, pace and technical abilities are just below par to be a good winger for the Eredivisie. But! His physique and determination are fantastic. He is a very strong player and he never gives up, always chasing the ball and always puts up a fight. Which makes him in my opinion a lot more suitable for the SPL than for the Eredivisie. I give him more of a chance at Celtic than at Ajax because of the difference in system. I can't give a more detailed report than this because he hasn't played that much last season, but this is what you'll have to work with
That'll do me grand. I'm hearing it is just a medical and that'll be it. A quick player who makes bad choices......sounds like James Forrest. Hopefully we'll bring him into a system that will suit him. Thanks for the info.
Look how cosmopolitan our board is these days... a bit of Dutch, Spanish, Australian, Manx, Irish, English all represented in this short thread
I'm going to be a big cynical Mr Cynico McSkeptic about this. We have a history of publicly going for two similar players and getting the cheaper one. I've not seen much of Boerrigter but I don't think he's anywhere near as versatile or as dangerous as Finbogossian. Hope Derk does us proud but I can't help but think that we could've splashed the cash on one player (wage structure allowing) who would genuinely give Champions' League opponents something to worry about (should we get there).
I take that you mean Finnbogason of SC Heerenveen. Well then yes, he was the better and more expensive option, but he is a striker, not a winger. And he has drawn the interest in the Bundesliga clubs.
Yup, I even joked yesterday that my spelling of Icelandic surnames would need to improve if he signed. We played Helsingborg twice last season and he never featured - he played in the previous round against a Polish team but not against us - not sure if it was due to injury or his loan being ended around that time. From the videos I've seen of him, he seems really direct and strong and I thought he could play wide as well.
