We have to. It's not even that we need to,even though we do really, it's the whole perception issue if we don't after we've been publicly chasing players. If we don't then sign someone and we end up starting the season with a fat **** like Anderson in the side for instance the whole failure transmits through the whole set up, from team to fans. Couple of signings and the place will be bouncing.
Like I stated in the Fabregras thread, if we are going after big names it generally has a knock on effect. As soon as one clubs makes a big signing then it then allows them to release a player etc. We just have to wait someone makes the first big move then we will see what happens. Or we could just go ****ter players and sign them straight away ala Ashley Young
He's just sat with his feet up on a little philippeno boys back now smoking a cuban, safe in the knowledge he's achieved his life times goal He did keep us inline with his posts on the banter thread though
To be fair, at the time Young seemed a really good signing. Going back to when billy big balls appeared and caused such a hoo hah, I don't even see Fabregas as that much of a huge signing but if we now fail to get him and end up with Fellaini I'd be gutted, as Fellaini would then seem like getting hold of a pub player (to me). The way it's gone we at the very least need to sign Fabregas, sign Baines and keep hold of Rooney. For two reasons; 1, there isn't really a suitable replacement out there so why sell one of your best players? (unless someone is going to start telling me Fabregas replaces Rooney. If that IS the case then we must also buy the pub player) 2, it would really, really piss off every Chelsea fan on the planet if we simply told them to **** off and stick to it. Might wipe that smirk off Jose's mug too. If we do the above then we can start the season in a bouyant mood.
I like fellani, i'd be more than happy with him.. Though agree it would feel a bit **** after not getting fabregas. I'm not so sure i see the point in signing baines though again would be happy if we did. I think the main move will be if madrid buy bale will we get our hands on ronny?
I'm not saying Young is a bad player just that he's not in the Fabregras, Modric, Thiago bracket of class (imo). Were going to look ****ing stupid in this Fabregras saga for going so public with it. I'm not sure what we were trying to achieve other than to show the fans were in the market for big name players ?? but even that has backfired. I don't want Fellani but if he signs I'd give him a chance but I don't think he's United class.
Because we need a left back. The other side of the coin is what would Ronaldo think about signing Bale? **** me I'm no longer needed or **** me imagine the damage us two can cause? He might well have an ego the size of Saturn but I still think it would be the latter.
No, he isn't United class, not as main man in CM anyway. At all, we should really be aiming higher. He would be very good alongside Fabregas though and, now you've mentioned him, Modric maybe if Real do get Bale and keep Ronny. They surely can not play everyone so maybe he becomes available? I still think Thiago is an unknown quantity so am not overly concerned about not getting him. I'm sure he's going to be very good but I think at this time we need to be signing finished articles. He could have been brilliant but he might well not have been.
To be fair we didn't have much choice once the details leaked to the media. Same with Chelsea and Rooney - they're going to look ****ing stupid if they can't prise an unhappy Rooney away from us after all the public statements they've made. Or Chelsea with Cavani and Arsenal with Suarez. Ultimately it's the problem you get when you go for the best players. We could have picked up a bunch of quite good cheaper players like City and Chelsea have done, and we did with Young etc, but we don't really need to improve our squad. Last season showed it was a good 8-10 points clear of the others even without any "Fergie factor". We need to improve the first team, which implies going for top players at top clubs like Thiago and Cesc. And when you do that there's always a higher risk of failure than when you buy squad players from smaller clubs.
