That's why it's puzzling, very mixed messages! Could have had a close look at him at home surely? But then if you're taking him on tour, why not give him a longer contract like the other kids?

Ah, well you don't have to read the tabloids of course... just a quick scan online, or a glance as you head for your Times is all you need to bother with

The Sun are reporting that Real Madrid have made a bid of £86m for Gareth Bale.

They also said that the bid has been rejected and that Bale has asked to leave.

They did get the story from Marca though, so no doubt it is bullshit

Bonkers money. I know in football terms he is worth it but £86M is ridiculous. Think what that could get you, or do for someone....

Absolutely insane isn't it! You'd think that Levy really has to take that offer if it is real, that goes a hell of a way towards that new stadium they want...for one bloody player! It has got to the stage now where you really have to believe that Bale wants to go, there seems to have been a new contract on the table since about Christmas, and nothing. We were getting our knickers in a twist about Schneiderlin the other day, and that Sky news piece comes out with Schneiderlin spelling out his dedication for the coming season, anything like that from Spurs...nope, just AVB shifting uncomfortably in his chair.

Bale will go. Rejection is just to squeeze a few more million out of them. Rule number one of negotiating is not to accept first offer surely, no matter how much it is.

Spurs will probably have to sell Bale. He's saying nothing in public (which I respect him for), but I suspect his agent is being active on his behalf. The problem for Spurs is that Bale made a massive difference to them last season....scoring the important goals (like the one against us...damn his eyes). The money must be spent wisely to replace him. They could find themselves in the position that Liverpool did last year...get a massive sum and the price of all players rises.

Think Spurs are trying to get replacements before they let Bale go, but Levy makes Cortese negotiations seem like a quick handshake

I think this may be due to a history of injury problems rather than an issue of talent or expectation..

I'd be more interested if our sell-on clause was still in place?

Its not. We opted out of a sell on fee in exchange for a certain tommy forecast. Rupert lowe is a genius!

We can still claim up to 5% due to FIFA regulations surrounding youth development.

I think it was because we were desperate...just as we did with Theo. I believe we have a lip-smacking % on Oxlade-Chamberlain (but no sign of him being sold anytime soon).

Is that certain or did we give that up as well?

It cannot be given up. It's a FIFA regulation for all sides. It's because we had Bale between 12-17, that we are entitled to it.

No one can take that away in any sort of deal.

It's explained in detail here: http://www.fai.ie/football-services-a-education/player-a-club-services/fifa-solidarity-and-compensation-payments.html

If you work out what that means with respect to Bale then please explain it to the rest of us <laugh>

I thought that was if they were sold before 23? Isn't Bale 24 now?
