    West Ham had been relegated.

Any player who can realistically play in the Premier League will get a few clubs interested (not offers) even if the salary and/or transfer fee discussed is smaller than required.

It's a delicate balance. Paying a lot (in wages or transfer fee) for one or two good players makes it easier to get other players willing to come to the club but it will make it less easy to pay reasonable wages or transfer fees later.

We can use our "wads of cash" to offer him a better deal!

Why do you keep saying that? As soon as he was mentioned I'm sure other PL clubs would look at him if not before. It would all depend on wages and transfer fees. Maybe he had a release clause already!

That's all he's said? Do you mean publicly? What about privately and unofficially?

Small mathematical point. If the profit was 300% then the buying price would be £1.25m. I think it was more than that wasn't it?

Somebody said I'd been "Eriked". I see why they say that. I agree with the above.

Nobody knows the terms, but they are rumoured to be £1.6m, potentially rising to £3m with add-on's.

Nobody is claiming the fee is £3m + add-on's.

    Stop digging.

Calm down. Remember the theory about Monkeys and the Complete Works of Shakespeare?

    If he's **** he'll cost us £1.6m.

If he's brilliant, he may cost us £3m and we may have to sell him for £5m.

    Where's the downside?

We've mitigated our risk, **** and we lose little, brilliant and we make a little(while benefitting while he's with us).

I can't believe anyone thinks this is a **** deal, or even worse, that we should have rejected it.

Given the parachute payments available it would seem the two year deals and a release clause are the way to go.
