Whoever does this job, from Mick Horswill to Ray Train to Ray Daniel to Shaun Cunnington to Whitehead to Cattermole to Henderson and now Larsson whoever does a holding midfield role will rarely win plaudits - he is there to let others play, to recycle the ball to more attacking players - you cannot with the best will in the world have two attacking midfielders as the fans would like to see - we are not good enough.

Look how much stick Michael Carrick gets.

If you have not got a token mag in the side to whip then t will be the defensive midfielder who gets it, as sure as night follows day.

I can understand that. Take Parker and Barry, slagged by most but do the un-sightly midfield job for two of the best teams in the league. Without doubt it's a difficult position to jazz up. In any case I thought Cabral was our DM so again where does that leave Larsson if we don't want two DM in the hole. May as well have stayed with Catts and Colback. ave a few million and be in the same (negative) predicament we all don't want.

    Again, I can't agree.

Many of us loved Cana, love Catts, are starting too with Cabral, appreciated N'Diaye, as we could see them having influence and cintrol on the game, fighting for balls etc.

Seb has done none of the above in that role.

DM's do indeed get massive credit, if they are any good at it. Seb is simply being discussed as he appears to do little on the park, this has no relevance to his position, he hasn't done anything for over a year.

This, plus its all about improving and going forward, we will always find an area for improvement thats what being a fan is, do u see everybody else improving? Giac is an improvement on mclean, cabral looks an improvement, altidore is on graham.

Atm larsson is the focus position for improvement that is all

Tough game today against a quality team, and a terrible pitch, to lose 1-0 was not bad but O Shea needs to get in faster, as both goals he could have stopped.

Both goals? We lost 1-0. JOS couldn't possibly have reacted to the goal today, the ball had changed direction and he was completely on his wrong foot.

Unless, you are suggesting JOS is able to distort the laws of physics and the natural movements of the human body?

I think Man City were lucky. The state of that pitch evened the game up in their favour. On a decent pitch they wouldnt have gotten a sniff. <whistle>

On a decent pitch they would have scored 3 instead of 2 and JOS would have been at fault for all of them as well.

No Monty get up to speed, the Sunderland Not606 have decreed Seb Larsson must be sacrificed, they are constructing a wicker man as I type to be set up at Cliffe Park.

Seb will be lured in and torched by the self proclaimed and all knowing high priests of the Not606Sunderland board.............

Seb must go, Seb must go, Seb must go, Seb must go.............

Think he meant the Spuds goal as well. Both goals from poor marking on edge of the box but not sure if you could point the finger at JOS.

Not his biggest fan mate but thought he was decent in both games. No way at fault for the City goal as Dzeko hit it as soon as it got to him so couldn't react. Even if he did react I doubt he would have stopped it.

Tell you what mate, nobody, literally nobody, has slated or dug at Seb at such, merely pointed out we may have better options in there now and made points.

Why not, instead of repeating incorrectly that he's being singled out, or making snide remarks when we were all discussing JOS, make a valid argument in Seb's favour and spark some debate?

Tell me, and back up what is wrong with this statement...

'Seb was our weakest player in this tournament, and it is difficult to see a first XI place for the lad as things stand'.

I am always, always open to peoples reasoned input, so fire away.

Glad your in the seb must go brigade gustav. Larsson can do a job but not in the middle of the park, he is a squad player that can, imo, have a positive impact on our season. We need better in there, he simply doed not cut the mustard. Ive seen enough **** sunderland midfiielders to understand when our team needs better but we, as sunderlNd fans have all been guilty of saying " lets all give lad a chance, he crossed the ball well, once or twice, in a game that was played a coulple of seasons ago".

I personally cant see where he fits into PDC's "model", he is old, slow and his ball retention is poor.

Get him out the first team and have him on the bench, so speaks the NOT606 board!

Because was Seb really our weakest player............I thought Gardener really struggled today, whilst Seb rarely gave the ball away and found man after man with his distribution....as he does week in and week out in the Premiership, however as he not getting the chance to take free kicks since Johnson arrived his goals tally has dropped off.

Look at how many defensive tackles he makes and wins.

Sess was playing like a man who has already played the best game of the season and is resting firmly on his laurels.

Giacherini, will win some free kicks but will he get a few yellow cards for simulation, a good fart would blow him over and the hand ball - what not give him a hat to wear and some clubs to juggle with as well.

Altidore.............not at the races and should be way ahead of any criticism before Larrson - if criticism is being handed out.

However should we really be judging our players in friendlies played on pitches which frankly would not show many players in a good light - I suggest not and that is what is getting my goat.

No I have not been drinking all day, I'm just sick of the need for a whipping boy, it will just spiral into a witch hunt and name calling as it did with Johnson to a certain degree, Graham, Whitehead, Jones, Mcshane, Delap etc etc etc...............it is just so so predictable yet you choose to take umbridge when it is pointed out.

It is a vicious sad circle and some seem to delight in finding fault under the guise of "legitmiate observation".

Why do I not make the case for Larsson.....................whats the point I have seen time after time on here, the die is cast, come in Seb.............your time is up, the taste of blood is on the lips of the not606sunderland board and its yours they are after....
