Er.. still not there. 2 more clues. 1. Some people from this place might feel homesick when hearing AC/DCs Hell's Bells. 2. It has more bridges than Venice or Amsterdam.
I was going to say Trieste, but the bridges clue (AC/DC one means nothing to me) has me leaning towards Bruges.
Hamburg it is ! The AC/DC reference was that the cult club F.C. St. Pauli (German second division) always run out on the pitch to the playing of this. The national border was with Denmark (for about 80 years Altona and the whole west of the present city where part of Schleswig Holstein which was Danish). The 4 churches were the Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish seamans churches (all in the AdmiralitätsstraÃe). And.. it has more bridges than any other city in the World and the underground marathon uses the old Elbe Tunnel. Over to you.
Scattergun approach, but none right mate equally off kilter... Thats it, he was never told. cf Kafka's The Trial.
Think that was Albert Camus Beth. Kafka was a sickly bloke, turned down for service in WW1 and had TB. I have the Queen Alexandra answer, but only because I looked it up.
