http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999–2000_Sunderland_A.F.C._season I remember this season quite well. We had just come up from the championship. A lot of our players were relatively unknown to the premier league. We had a manager who focused on hard work, teamwork and playing with wingers. We had an experience defender in Bould at the back and the big man SNQ leading the line up front. As far as I remember we were 2nd in the league when we drew with Man United in last league game of the year. The above reminds me a little of whats going on now...... There are 2 questions I have. Did anyone else think at the start of the 99/00 season that we would be at the top of the league challenging at Christmas? (I certainly did not) Does anyone think we can do the same this season under PDC?
No................... but i would love it to happen, unfortunately we all have to wake up, but cant wait to get back to bed and relive that very dream
Maybe, I always remember Alex Ferguson saying after there game on Motd, that he didn't fear Arsenal for the title but was more worried about Sunderland. The boxing day hammering at Everton that season started our decline..
I remember it well, I was sat it the Everton end swearing under my breath a lot.......while all around me were dancing for joy!!!
I remember being on a stag weekend for the 1st game of the season. When I heard the final score I thought "it's going to be a long hard season." Little did I know...
Cheers fella I do, gutted he didn't see the back to back 7th seasons, he deserved it, like many of his age he was long suffering to say the least, at least he saw the new stadium and got a brick which I still haven't bloody found, I presume it's next to mine which I can't find either. Cest reminds me of him in so many ways. He avoids my comments though
If we get the 2 fullbacks we need I think we'll be a very good team. The Premierships alot stronger now though!
1999 was the year of the pill for me and my lot, how we survived that year is nobody's business, its a blur! out from thursday till sunday, then i met my wife in 2000 after djing the madest party ever on the millenium nye
If only we had kept Mickey Bridges and Magic Johnston had sorted his contract with Reidy instead of being frozen out, we could have finished a lot higher that year. Will always remember the Chelsea game pure class.
