My problem is and I live here ... the kid you see playing football when they can are all foreigners etc ... over 95% of the population here are foreign. So who is it being held for?

    It should have been if at all over a wider area of countries than just Qatar

    I get the impression that the word cup is a toy to them, don't get me wrong I like it here .... but in the recent friendly Spain v Uruguay the area where the Qatari dignitaries where sat after half time was bloody empty.

    <cheers>

    The Japan/Korea World Cup was a bit weird, most of the attendees seemed to have no idea what was going on, they were supporting both teams.

    There was no alcohol in the grounds or anywhere near them and it wasn't really like a World Cup at all.

    Tradition is that the World Cup is always held in the summer - which is what the bidding nations were bidding for. If Mr Blatter (joke) and Mr Boyce (even bigger joke) can't see that and wants to change the goalposts after the bidding process has happened - fine, but then let's have all Euro nations boycott the Qatar world cup (due to health and safety and human rights concerns).

    Germany 2006 was the best World Cup I have seen.

    France 98 looked like the best of the lot though.

    Mexico ’86 was my personal favourite, then Italia ’90.

    The rest since then, for me, have ,invariably, been a bit of a let down.

    Every WC is great in its own way. The big difference in the last 20 years is we pretty much know all the players. Years ago it was great seeing all those unknown brilliant footballers, plus back in the 70's there was hardly any football on telly.
    ****ing hell the Cruyff turn!! Everyone out practising that for hours on end

    True.

    Also enjoyed seeing teams like Cameroon practising with turnips, and other teams who played as if they weren't quite familiar with the game as we knew it. Vague memories of a team walking off in '82 - Kuwait? Cameroon player doing a lap of honour after being sent off in '90

    Wasnt it Brazil against Zaire in 74 where Jairzinho was lining up a free kick and the Zaire player just ran out of the wall and booted it away!! Jairzinho pissing himself.

    Yes a world cup without bars, beer tents, strip joints and bacon butties. I can see it being a great success, I mean whats the wife going to do whilst I watch the football.

    I think this has more to do with bank accounts than brains.
    Qatar tops the list of wealthy nations, so football issues were basically irrelevant to the FIFA decision.
