According to Twitter West Ham are interested in Fabio Quagliarella now, so we probably would be a second choice compared to them. We are still interested in signing N'doye, but I don't see anything new in the news.

We don't have any wingers do we? I know carrabuh is expecting us to sign a couple (in particular the tall, lanky type) which is presumably why he is predicting that Snoddy will be a bench player by Christmas, but as far as good old fashioned getting to the bye line and crossing from wide is concerned, I think any of that will be left to the full backs. But I agree the priority now is a linking midfielder (unless there are real injury concerns with regard to Bassong and/or Turner, in which case we also need another CB).

    I agree.
Attacking midfielder / support striker / "man in the hole" required.
Plus a CB of Bassong standard as we struggle when he's not available.

    Hmm.
Those two would probably run to another £10-12m...

This has been the transfer season everything changed. I never thought we'd be in a position to gazump people and attract international players with ambition. Can't wait to get going now.

The best thing about this transfer window is the fact that we're signing high calibre players much in demand by other clubs. Hughton has managed to shake off the 'little' Norwich tag which has always been attached to the club.
And best of all is that it's been achieved without waving the chequebook in people's faces unlike our 'friends' in Shepherd's Bush <doh>

Exciting times indeed and much credit to Hughton and McNally for what they've achieved thus far <ok>

Beef, you'll never learn! None of our last season problems have been "solved". They weren't on the field, they were on the touchline ........... <whistle> <ok>

as i understand it, hooper is going to be getting a pay rise of around £10k a week to join norwich - just shows how difficult it is for celtic to keep their best players when premier league clubs come in for them. he'll be on just under £30k a week by the way.

but that's not the best bit - according to one scottish journalist qpr were set to offer more than £40k a week! they never learn, do they... <doh>

£40k a week in Championship. Wow.

The way they are being run will bite them in the arse one day.

So who here thinks we have a squad to run with? and who thinks we still have some gaps in our squad?

i guess it was the only way they felt they could prise him to their club i suppose, but its far from being sensible. they basically can't afford hooper but were happy to buy him. a club who get 18k in the championship, no matter who their owner, should not be paying £40k+ a week - as i say, they've learnt nothing and does point towards the theory that they will end up being another pompey one day

we still have one big gap - the midfield/attack link man, and one possible gap in the heart of defence. other than that we are set imo although i'd like to see another quality centre mid brought in, but that will have to wait till next summer

I'm no defender of QPR but if their wheels are not to fall of completely they need to be promoted this coming season. If spending £40k/week on a top striker does the business then it is small change compared with having another three seasons worth of big Sky money. It is a gamble certainly but is it more of a gamble to risk staying down with the huge wage bill of their existing WCT players hanging over the club like a millstone. Put in context I guess on £40k/week Hooper would be a middle earner there?

they still have remy on £75k a week! zamora is on £50k a week. even andy johnson is meant to be on £40k a week. should they really be adding to these? that's just three players whose wages have been widely reported - i dread to think what others are on. they should be getting the wage bill down, not topping it up! they are going to end up in a real mess

Really depends on how (with the arrival of Fer) Hughton plans to use Howson. If Hughton is inclined to use him more often in a rotation with Hoolahan in a more advanced role, I think we're pretty much set. If not, I would like to see us purchase a proper 'in the hole' midfielder.

Furthermore, either a right-back or centre-back would be useful (signing a right-back would mean R.Martin could be used at centre-back more often) for strength in depth.
