Shaun Derry was on talksport last night. There was two QPR supporters who thanked him for being a grafter, said they still thought he would be great for us this season , and thought we would do well. If we start the season with the squad we have at the moment we will be more near the trap door than the play offs in my opinion.
Our stock is dropping IMO and we have spent the majority of pre-season with a squad that probably isn't/wasn't meant to be here. Cue last minute desperation deals and a team that needs to gel rather than one that is truly ready to hit the ground running.
I was having a think about this last night, and glad this thread got posted by northlondonqpr. With the potential lack of transfer activity in bringing in players within the next 2 weeks we're going to have to utilise the squad we currently have. We still have Julio Cesar, Joey Barton and Adel Taraabt on our books. All 3 need to be able to play against Sheff Wed barring any offers. Loic Remy also needs to be brought up to fitness asap and start up front. I'd be going with this team (if available) (4-2-3-1) Cesar; Simpson, Dunne, Onouha, Suk-Young; Jenas, Barton, Hoilett, Taraabt, Park; Remy The right wing position is obviously the headache. The choice between Park and SWP is difficult for all the wrong reasons.
I can't see Harry buying Henry and not playing him. He'll be used instead of Barton and I can see m'bia starting ahead of hoilett Cesar won't be risked in case he gets injured this nullifying his sale / loan potential As for adel, who knows??
Once again like last season, on paper we should have a side that dominate the league. As we all know, a team on paper relates nothing to the performance on a Saturday afternoon. We need leaders to pull the team together, maybe Dunne or Jenas will step up. I'm still forever hopeful...
Bang on, mate. Harry ( I hope ) won'y play Cesar, Barton or Adel .............. what for? We have able replacements whether better or worse. These three should not form part of the team. Harry needs to get serious and make a statement from day one. We are not going to be fcuked around any more. Over to you, Harry.
Forget about Cesar, Remy and Taarabt for starters and hopefully Barton. People have to accept it as a fact of life that Queens Park Rangers Football club is not going to be the move of choice for any self respecting Premier League fringe player and therefore if Tony and Phil Beard are playing hardball on fees and wages then a lot of the work that is going on behind the scenes will not come to fruition and there are probably conversations that have been had about some players that have not hit the rumour mill and have come to nothing. Likewise, every club who is interested in one of our sell-able assets knows that we need to offload players and will play hardball on how much they think they can get away with for the likes of Cesar, Adel, Remy. Therefore like the last 3 seasons of yore, come 10pm on the 31st August we will see Jim White, tool in hand under the desk, getting over excited as another 4th choice striker or defender runs through the reception area at LR. Therefore I hope that HR starts on 3rd August with the first team and bench who he believes will at least be part of the 25 for most of the season. I dont think he has any intention of including the above as he wont want to waste time integrating them for a couple of games, because they will go before the window ends and probably right at the death. A lot of people will be moaning on about signings and saying there was better out there we should have bought. The problem is that there is better out there but they CANT be bought by QPR, a team just relegated and a negative media circus putting off any half decent player who wants to improve their position and not just their bank balance Green, Young the Younger, Dunne, Onouha, Simpson, Henry, Faurlin, SWP, Hoilett, Johnson, Zamora.
Green, Young the Younger, Dunne, Onouha, Simpson, Henry, Faurlin, SWP, Hoilett, Johnson, Zamora. (Need to add Jenas and Park to that mix, and possibly MBia and Diakite) You know defensively that ain't bad...but what we are truly lacking is goals and the ability to get goals (if we can keep Remy and Tarbs and we can add Sutherland...and if Junior and SWP could provide...just perhaps we will surprise ourselves. One can live in hope...until next Saturday at least
I completely understand the views here, and long term I support the sales of the players on extortionate wages. I know that has to be the long term view. I was just offering the perspective that we make these players on our books actually play for us and earn their moves. Easier said than done though.
I think we have a top six squad without question. There are no excuses. Hunger and team spirit could make our players heroes again. We have to step up now and next week we will sense it all ... we get a few wins in the first 6 games we are on
There's still over a month of transfer window left. There'll be more comings and goings from the club for sure, so we should have a reasonable idea of prospects by the start of September
