Also, it seems Capoue has blown Cardiff out of the water. Said he's not interested unless a bigger Premier League club comes in.

    Ouch.

I think it's all twaddle, but I think I might even shed a tear when Rickie finally stops playing for us. Whether that be because he retires or goes elsewhere. There are very few players who I've had such admiration for as Rickie, because of his modesty, his honesty, his ability, his goals, and his absolute love for this club. He may be a livelong fan of Liverpool but Southampton has been the peak of his career and he knows it.

If we had the choice, Damiao or Osvaldo? I'm siding with Osvaldo, just.

That's like Kylie and Dani offering it up. Of course I'd be more than siding with Kylie, but would be more than made up with Dani.

I'd go for youth and future potential every time. The only downside is that his first season will see criticism from fans as he's not 'the finished product' despite costing a record fee. Eg Gaston

The very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov is the first name on my list of satisfaction.

Rather sadly for me Morgan Schneiderlin is first on her list of satisfaction.:emoticon-0101-sadsm

Maybe I'm greedy but I don't see why we couldn't sign both:)

Definitely Osvaldo. It's not even really close.

    I disagree, and here's why:

Osvaldo is hugely inconsistent. He also brings with him the reputation that he is a prize bell end.

Damiao is younger, a Brazil first teamer in the year that Brazil are hosting the world cup and in my opinion has the potential to become better than Osvaldo.

How is he inconsistent? He doesn't score every game but only about 4 players in the world do and we'd not sign any of them in a million years. Damiao is far more inconsistent in terms of putting in completely absent performances, and he has a worse record, agains significantly worse teams. And for reasons I've been through before, I'm sure that reputation is exaggerated, and I trust Pochettino's judgement on that having worked with him first hand.

He's not a lot younger, people are treating him as if he's some wonderkid when he's theoretically near his peak. His importance to the Brazil team is vastly overstated at that.

A Saints fan in Italy, who actually supports Roma - said this:

As a Roma fan he also says Osvaldo's ego problems are over-stated and people really do not understand the atmosphere surrounding playing for AS Roma.

Basically, Osvaldo is older but more likely to adapt quickly in the PL, whilst Damiao has more potential - but is more of a gamble.

Osvaldo, purely because he's significantly better right now. Damiao is too inconsistent.

I personally think Damiao would be a better fit. He is a skillful target man, which suits the 4-2-3-1 system we currently employ. Osvaldo is a completely different type of player, which would require a change of tactics from the whole team.

I guess you could argue that this is just what we need, to mix up our style. But it basically depends if we want to buy for the system we currently employ, or change it.

To be honest, for me a lot depends on the price. If we could get them for the exact same fee, I would choose Damiao. If Osvaldo would be significantly cheaper (which it looks like he might be), then I would choose Osvaldo.

EDIT: Obviously I would be ecstatic with either!

Agree, as Damiao will not hang around long enough to benefit us with his potential. If we are claiming Damiao is our top target, though, how does that damage the ego of someone like Osvaldo? Gaston came here because we showed how much we truly wanted him, as compared to Liverpool.

This is a good point, he will not want to lose his place in the Brazil squad, so he'll be very motivated to make a good impression. There's not a lot between them but I'd go for Damiao given the choice.
