defencively Colback is way ahead of Rose, this was again proved yesterday. Rose is better going forward but gives the ballaway to often, Colback rarely gives the ball away. As a fullbacks main job is to defend give me Colback over Rose. ps have a look at Rose at our 3rd goal yesterday.

Rubbish because Colback doesn't get caught out of position & he doesn't give pens away like Gardner does.

    Colback is very good defensively.

But I'd have Rose any day of the week over Jack at lb

I disagree mate, the roll of fullback has evolved massively over the last decade. Been able to defend is no longer top priority for a fullback, the need to be able to attack, pass, run the line of the whole pitch and help link defence with attack. I agree Colback is safer defensively than rose but thats not going to give us extra width going forward and it's not going to support our wide men. Wingback will replace fullback eventually cause the position demands so much more than containing an opponent's wide man.

We have a plethora of attacking players further up the pitch therefore a solid defence is very important. I'd be happy with Colback starting at LB and certainly wouldn't be looking to break the bank for a LB. I wouldn't pay the kind of money Spurs are likely to be asking for Rose.

The reason why Rose looked so good for us last season is because of the limited number of attacking players that we had in the 1st team. This season is completely different.

but our attacking wide men tend to cut in, inside forwards need to be overlapped, once upon a time long in the past an AJ would have an outside right to support him, that roll is filled by wing backs in the modern game. Defensively sound isn't enough anymore, not When DM's drop into the backline to help out.

Look at Colbacks mistake that led to Boros goal last season in the cup. You cant say Jacks better than Rose over our 3rd goal. If anything Rose shouldve had some support off the left winger instead of being isolated.

Colback didn't serve us badly against Spurs and I'd be more than happy with more of the same!

Of course mate I agree, but the fact he offers little going forward and has no natural instinct to hug the touchline when he pushes forward means there's no way we should be considering him as first choice lb has he just doesn't have enough of the required attributes to play there imo. Reluctantly I accept we're not going to sign two left backs so he'll do as back up. but failure to sign a left back/left wing back would be an absolute disaster as far as i'm concerned. A play who 'can do a job' is not progression in my book.

Are we forgetting the fact hes refused to sign a new contract, so like Rose he might not be at the club either next season.

Question: if we sign a LB would you play Colback at RB?

I've not mate, same applies to Gardener (who I wouldn't give a new contract, he's on too much money for his squad status). If we don't sign 2lbs and 2rbs we're gonna have to let them walk for free, which is why I'm being so headstrong about 2 for each position. I don't want us flushing money down the bog as per.

No mate, never in a million years. It's already square peg round hole playing him at lb, but to play him at right back should be nothing more than absolute necessity and not choice.

Happy to have Colback as back up but, we need a proper LB/LWB and not a converted CM. Colback will be found out after a few more games then we are back to square one chopping and changing players. Lets get a LB in and some competition for the LB spot asap then get them some game time, Colback can be back up for CM (not his best position for me) and LB (where he is a lot better).

why do posters keep referring to rose about this position , he plays for spurs, not safc .
we need to sign a lb and a rb and is its him ,good , but stop putting him in posts, its a pipe dream at the present.

dont get me wrong i would love him here but hes not , move on

Why would we want to play a left footed central mid right back????
He fills in left back ok, but right back? Ru having a laugh???

P.s- Please dont refer to the Everton game.
