To be fair we did have bigger fish to fry as we were still trying to win the league (and should have done!). Chelsea had their eyes on the one remaining prize. We're also not a cup team like Chelsea.
Bollox they did! Why are you all responding to a WUM like its the truth? Those figures are for the CL only!! Chelsea earned a further 10.7M euros for their Europa run: So Utd earned 35.5M and Chelsea earned nearly 41.5M (30.777M +10.7M) plus at least another 1.5M from being in next years Super cup.
The impact of having to play europa games on a Thursday is detrimental to a league campaign. I agree that it's probably wrong to say we didn't try but I do think we were rather half arsed in our attempt to win that competition and being knocked out helped in us chasing the league. Likewise for City. The europa was yours and Benitez's last and only chance of silverware last season so you pursued it, as you would. We didn't feel the need to as we had a bigger one to chase. Whether you like it or not, that's how it was.
Even if true, you still got dumped into Europa despite being in a very average group. Or did you not try in the C.L either that year? Also we had top 4 to play for as well as Europa (as well as reaching the semis finals of both domestic cups). Getting back in the C.L places was always the clubs priority under Rafa and it went to the final game of the season.
Both sides who you are superior to, or are you saying Chelsea are a worse team than Basel and Benfica?
We're not bragging. It is inferior to the CL that's obvious. But just because you can't win it doesn't mean it's not worth winning.
Yes it is Drogs but if it upsets them then they should lay off the chav stuff. It obviously pisses of NOF but hey he's only a kid so maybe I'll stop it.
I think Manc **** is brilliant Dave. As well as being Not606's Oscar Wilde (post Reading gaol) you're also the Shelley of the Chavs.
It is true. And as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, trying to win the league is certainly a bigger fish than making sure you finish fourth. That's Arsenal territory. And of course we tried in the CL, we just happened to get knocked out. That happens sometimes you know, given it's a cup competition.
It's the award for the 17th best team in Europe. If that's where you aim then it's a success, and sure enough once you went out of the CL it was the best you can do. Looking at your season in europe as a whole however, going from the best team to the 17th best team has to be counted as a failure.
As Ruff said, it's a cup competition and sometimes you get knocked out. As you are supposedly the biggest team in the world I could say that your European Cup record is pretty crap.
