The premiership, we all want to be there, but the journey will be better than the destination. The second we get there the prices for everything will go up by 25%. We will be cannon fodder for many of the clubs we like to compare ourselves to, and the brand of football is duller than in the championship. We will go from being the biggest fish in the small pond, to being a little fish in a whole ocean. If we do well the plastics will be back. On the upside the lionesses will not be talking to us.
Exactly what I was thinking when I read this thread. Getting so many people at the other side of the world to buy into a product, that the majority can't possibly have a geographical/family attatchment to, just says a lot about football as big business, the cult of personality, global marketing and media hype. If Steve Jobs was still alive and was to release a new iPhone in the stadium they'd probably fill that out too for very similar reasons. Just a personal opinion but if anything I find it kinda sad.
When Leeds were in Prem, they were top 5 in terms of revenue generated without Sky money, so that is gate, merchandising etc. Other four? Scum, L'pool, Arsenal, Newcastle. Yes, Leeds have a bigger support base than most clubs in England, and once back in Prem the status quo will be restored. Bates hurt us badly, but things are looking up .... he's history now.
I see the point some are making about rather 1000 genuine fans than 95k plastics in oz. I was merely using that as an example. I want to see us one day restored to the top table of football, when we were fit to compete at the top in Europe. In the modern game, that requires worldwide merchandising or having the red bulls of the world sponsoring shirt, stadium or whatever. It's not ideal but it is the way of modern football. As I say, the choice is simple, embrace this money mad culture and return to the top table or bury our heads in the sand and continue to scrape around in the lower reaches with the millwalls and stevenages of the footballing world, no disrespect intended to stevenage
7 new signings this window all proven at this level or higher no disrespect Eire but you cant live with the Millwalls of the footballing world anymore
We are biding our time Mighty...by the Brighton game we'll have 3 new signings in (don't quote me on this)...
Heard it all before. Few certainties in football but here's one, as usual well finish ahead of your lot no matter how piss poor a squad we have. We just have far higher standards. You lot would be thrilled with some of the rubbish were clearing out
Exactly what level is Jermaine Easter proven at? Bringing in 'proven' players at any particular level doesn't guarantee they'll be a great player anyway. When you lot signed Chris Taylor he'd never played above League 1, but he was arguably your best player last year
Good point Shako If you had any more players of that quality you cant afford to keep we will take them gladly
That explains why Taylor got himself a move to Blackburn and ****tu's still at Millwall... Point is that 'proven' players aren't always the way forward, we know that better than anyone
That explains why Taylor got himself a move to Blackburn and ****tu's still at Millwall... Point is that 'proven' players aren't always the way forward, we know that better than anyone explains everything Kiwi we keep our best players
