You're right - they've played it well, but as I said a few posts ago, I actually feel we've been mugged off a bit here, simply because QPR act like complete idiots. They have forced the price up falsely because they are stupid with money and have, ergo, forced our hand and Celtic have (well within their rights) taken advantage. Admittedly, we've probably only paid a few hundred grand more than we wanted to (hardly a Torres situation), and if Hooper is very effective it won't matter at all, but it really does make me hope that QPR come back to ground with a bump and I am very much enjoying the egg on 'Arry's face.
A Canary fan just asked Celtic fans for an honest appraisal of GH on twitter. This is one reply. Sounds like a job for Wes Hoolahan - or the CAM we're (hopefully) still to sign?
i think you're probably right but it was becoming more important that we got our man rather than worry about the fee. celtic say the fee is £5m - there's no talk of add ons of which there will undoubtedly be some. i said all along i think his worth when taking into account his contract situation is around £5m so i'm not too bothered if we've over paid by £1m or so. we're getting a good striker whose value will rocket if he does what we all hope he will - play well, get goals and be called up for england.
Not us but had to snigger! twentyfour7 Football ‏@twentyfour7 1m Blackpool sign Michael Chopra from Ipswich http://twentyfour7football.com/blackpool-sign-chopra-from-ipswich-12963 … #tf7 #bfc #itfc
This has been a phenomenal window for us and much of it IMO stems from retaining JR. That gave everything an underlying boost coupled with the early signing of RVW. Well done DM and CH.
I made some ill-advised comments about the Scottish league when we signed Whittaker, so I won't be saying anything this time round. I really have no idea about Hooper since I haven't seen him play. On paper we have an exciting new team (or half new), so now it's up to them to do it on grass.
You've just beaten me to it, Superjamas. Having seen this : But what that doesn't factor in is his sell-on value if he performs well for us and scores goals. Yes, due to his Celtic contract running down there will be 'depreciation' in his value now, but if he signs for NCFC, we start again with a brand new contract so that theoretical £2.5m overpayment can be recouped as and when. Happy days. (If he signs, of course)
well that seals their doom. well done to mccarthy for getting rid of him - didn't think they'd be able to
cromer, it's always tricky when contracts are being run down. i personally prefer to look at a players overall worth rather than if their contract is running out. in that respect we've just signed a £7m player for £5m. if you take his contract situation into account we've probably signed a £3m player for £5m. i think the fee is fairly reasonable when you see there was another club interested but like i say, i don't know about the add ons
If Jordan Rhodes was worth £8m, then surely Hooper is worth £5m in the present PL climate. Having had a bid accepted, presumably City would still be able to move things on if QPR raise their bid.
Tricky transfer but looks like we've done it. I think he's a great striker and will fit in well. Has an air of the swashbuckling nature of holty and a superb finisher. Knew those odds fluctuations meant something last night. I find it hilarious we find new and original ways to mug off QPR
