I don't think it is a case of writing anyone off, more a case of not placing expectations on their shoulders before seeing them properly #notwritingthemon
You make it sound like there going to come on Not606, read our comments and buckle under the pressure This may be just me, but if I joined a new club, I'd much rather the fans get excited by me and expect big things from me. Playing for us is in itself pressure, I'd much rather be optimistic because that's what new signings are meant to do.
Sturridge has a better conversion rate (he was something like 14th or 15th in the league opposed to Suarez being 23rd) but we create a lot less chances without Suarez, who I think created the most chances for us last season, not even including the ones he made for himself.
Like we did with Downing, Carroll, Allen, Borini, etc? Having been through these things many times before, I prefer to keep my feet on the ground
Yeah but that's part and parcel, isn't it? I got excited about all of them, but I'm not losing any slept knowing they perhaps weren't as good as I thought they would be. After all, the scouts have seen far more of him than I have, and these are the people who saw the potential in Coutinho and Sturridge. I do know what you're saying, though.
Sturridge has better goal ratio than Suarez If Suarez leaves for Arsenal so be it, we can buy another quality player http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Luis-Suarez-ready-say-wants-join-Arsenal.html
I'll get excited if we sign someone like Eriksen, Bernard, Papa or Alder but not for players I've never heard of TBF, I was very pessimistic when we signed Sturridge and Coutinho too. The last transfer that got me going was Luis Suarez arriving. Edit: I was talking about my expectations on a player, not expectation weighing a player down
Good players will perform no matter what expectation is put under them. That's not just from a technical view but also mental view. Coutinho was touted as one of the best talents to come out of Brazil. Struggled a bit at Inter but rediscovered form at Espanyol and now reached a new level at LFC. And he's only 20. The point is - class shines through regardless of pressure.
Actually I did forget about them, both looked good preseason. Ibe has certainly surprised me,he has come on a bundle from last preseason. Oh I forgot about downing too...and I shall continue too. Don't think we will miss his couple of prem goals each season. However, I really feel we need a second quality striker and I am sure if we get the right money for Suarez we will get them.
We can't rely on Sturridge. He has done well in the last 6 months but he does go missing sometimes and I have real reservations on him next season - will he stay fit the entire time and keep up his goal scoring ratio?
