We were much improved on last time, defensive error from Ryan Bennett have them a goal. Positive Pre season game Won't stop massive over-reaction though. I fear for some fans if thy cant understand/ deal with Pre season the real season it going to be pretty hard for them lol
Ah well, it's some more minutes on the pitch for pretty much everyone and that's what pre-season is all about. Not concerned at the result at all, particularly as I stuck a cheeky fiver on us to lose at 2/1, which I thought far too generous to turn down, considering they're a decent side midway through their domestic season. Don't recall me ever backing us to lose before, certainly not in a competitive match - now off to stick my tenner winnings on us to finish top ten at 5/1
Right then who watched the game? Is there any positives to be taken? Very disappointed that another back pass has led to us conceding a goal.
What's all the panic about?, have to keep in mind that we have new players that need to settle into the team, it's a restructured squad so the first bunch of matches are bound to be like this. Once they have some time together the mistakes will be ironed out, the positives are that we didn't lose by a great deal and we lost because of silly mistakes which can be corrected.
Watched both games and last night we improved again so it is a bonus and it was only out of a lack of match sharpness that we conceded. No we didn't score but we created far more opportunities then the last game and Redmond looks like a real hand full.
didn't watch the game but i'm told redmond looked fantastic so that's promising. couldn't care less about the result as we have gaping holes everywhere due to injuries and players who haven't traveled but i'm expecting performances upped in time for the two home friendlies. all about fitness at this stage
I watched the second half, but had to teach during the first. We didn't look as sterile as we did against San Jose and created a few chances. And apparently we were better in the first half than the second. As everyone said, Redmond in particular looked like he cared and he was a real handful. Butter looked OK when he came on, too. R Bennett had a bit of a mare in the second half after that back pass. E Bennett was involved a lot but created little. Hoolahan was wasteful and gave the ball away quite a lot. Those are my impressions, for what they're worth, which probably isn't much.
I remember well the pre-season where we were in the Championship and beat Wigan and Sunderland of the Premiership to eventually get relegated and drop to League1. At this time it means nothing much at all, the first important game is Everton (H) everything else is fluff.
Redmond had looked exciting in both games. Starting to think we might see a lot more of him this season than we assumed at the time.
the week before we lost to colchester we beat championship crystal palace 1-0 at selhurst park (bogey ground) and beat premier league wigan 3-2. results are meaningless. performances are more important but they will improve as fitness levels increase. agree about redmond too. i don't know why people don't think he'll play much - its very apparent hughton has enormous faith in the kid.
Actually these two games have been the first time I've really seen butterfield and I thought he looks pretty good too.
I think he'll play plenty, but I don't think he will or should start regularly unless Pilkington gets injured (a high possiblity...) Pilks is the senior player and a match winner on his day - I think he is better than Redmond at this stage and we should be looking to manage Redmond's develop carefully rather than overplaying him just because he's fast.
depends who impresses the most on the training field i'm a big pilks fan though and i always think we look a much better side when he features.
Pilkington may be the senior player and a match winner on his day, but I think ideally CH wants to see a more Redmond-like Pilkington than he saw last season. I think Redmond is going to be genuine competition for Pilks, and it will be interesting to see how the latter responds.
on a separate note, it appears it's not only hooper from celtic who wishes he was a yella... http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/fans/official-celtic-fc-nike-away-shirt-201314_22013
I'm also a big Pilks fan, but in several games last year, I thought he was quite anonymous at times. That said, who can forget his winner against ManUre????
On the other hand, Redmond looks like he will go looking for the ball rather than let the game pass him by. With Pilks, I feel there are entire games where he goes missing and I forget he's on the pitch.
