Plenty of nice areas within the city - I live in a village in the East Riding, but spent last week looking after a house on Victoria Dock; it's in the centre of Hull and was quieter than I'm used to in a village. It was really convenient too, especially with the new bridge linking it to the old town.
I agree that most peoples misconceptions of hull are based on chinese whispers so to speak. I only say chinese whispers as thats where i am at the mo. I have travelled the world and still do for work, but as soon as i get the chance i head straight home back to my beloved city of Kingston upon Hull. To be honest i have always thought i would move abroad what with work commitments etc but never have. I was born down St Matthew street off hessle road during the boom time of the fishing industry. I miss the honesty of those times when people just walked in to the house to say hello and have a cuppa. I moved out to Bransholme during my early teens as the fishing industry was dying on its feet. Many of the fishing folk left for Peterhead, Aberdeen etc some went as far as NZ. Bransholme in the 70's was not too bad a place to live either. Some of the community spirit from other parts of the town was in evidence there too. After leaving school and serving my time, i decided to broaden my horizons and began a career offshore in the oil industry where i still work today. It's only down side is i see very little of the city i love as i am always away working. The worst part is i dont get to use my season pass for the mighty tigers as much as i would like. My brother and my son go to most home matches and if money allows a few away ones too. Would i live anywhere else before i eventually pop my cloggs, nah i dont think so. I did move out to the villages but kept getting drawn back to where the people are if nothing else honest about who they are and where they come from. More importantly where else can i get my pattie, chips and mushy peas with scraps. You can keep your fish cakes or whatever else they want to call them. To those that diss our great city, get a life and if you have never been. Visit the place you will be surprised at how friendly the people are and how if you look at the city properly you will realise its a great place to visit and to live. Kingston upon Hull ( be proud to let people know your from the city ) after all we did tell one of the kings of England to **** Off home he wasnt welcome. How many other so called city's can boast the same. Im from Ull loud and proud always !!!!!
My city, McKinney, Texas, is always highly rated in national surveys, as subjective as they are. I'm partial to midwestern small towns like Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The worst cities are easy to name: Newark, New Jersey is the right armpit, Oakland, California is the left armpit, and Detroit is the bunghole. Really, though, most of the larger cities in America are lousy places to live. Too bad those visiting here tend to go to NYC, Boston, Washington, Miami, LA, and the like. No wonder so many people have a jaundiced view of our country. The big cities are aberrations. For the real flavor of America one has to visit the smaller cities and towns. But I suppose every nation is like that. My opinion of the French goes up dramatically simply be leaving Paris.
It is very amusing how people think they can gain street cred by letting us know which area they came from.I was born in an absolute ****hole-long pulled down along with the schools I went to.I have subsequently lived in some of the richest and poorest parts of the country. My experience is there is a mixed bag of people in all areas and socio economic clusters. My only observation of differences is between people who stay roughly in the same area /city and those who move around a bit. Those who move around do need to reconsider their behaviours more as they enter new situations and meet new people.This can be quite uncomfortable but hopefully leads to greater maturity and open mindedness. I have doggedly stuck to being an arsehole wherever I have lived. Perhaps Agro would like to inform us of the broad life experience that has enabled him to become so Man

And I thought that wood had be banned from use in furniture due to it coming from the rainforests of the amazon - which as a planet we should be preserving.
I only buy furniture that was made from wood that was once an animals habitat. Nothing says "feng shui" like a coffee table made from a squirrels home.
... in my experience Habitat furniture was always crap ... and if you really believe your coffee table can talk ... seek help my friend, seek help ...
