What a fantastic year 2013 is turning out to be for great fights! This one will be absolutely fascinating to watch... The undefeated Groves squaring up to double World Champion Froch. Mouthwatering! Who are you backing for this one?
I don't really rate Groves and if he runs away from Froch for the whole fight which he might do then the fight will be a stinker.
Froch is probably still just that little bit too tough to try and knockout, so I think we will see Groves on the back-foot as he was against DeGale. The later rounds will get seriously interesting... I think either Groves will nick it on points, owing to Froch's poor defence, or Froch will test Groves's chin for a possible late stoppage! I'm so unsure of what will happen that i'm not even contemplating putting money on it!
Tactical battle setting problems for Froch.... No problem with that. My gut tells me that you are overrating what Groves is bringing at this stage of his career. I do hope you are right though.
Froch knockout in the 8th. I like Groves but may have bitten off too much at this stage. I have no doubt he will try to pot shot his way through and flummox Froch with movement. Froch is wily though and hits hard.
Saw the press conference today... Froch was showing off his poker face! Groves sounded nervous even if the words he used didn't! Bring it on!
http://www1.skysports.com/boxing/news/12183/8926969/george-groves-thought-to-have-split-from-trainer-adam-booth-ahead-of-carl-froch-fight George Groves splits from Trainer Adam Booth? Surely it must be mind-games from the Booth camp? If true, then Groves' chances of defeating Carl Froch just took a nose-dive.
It seems to me that Groves didn't agree on the tactics for the Froch fight... Booth is an excellent tactician and Groves has made a massive mistake falling-out with him at this late stage. George claims the split has been "...a long time coming..." but i'm not convinced. I reckon Groves has got ideas above his station and will try to meet Froch head-on... Ooops!
Im going to stick my neck out here and say that Groves has no chance of winning this fight. Im amazed that some of the so called boxing experts are saying Groves will have some sort of tactical edge in this fight even though Groves has just split with Adam Booth and Rob McCracken is a very good tactical trainer.
I see nothing but pain for Groves. It may or may not take Froch a while to nail him to the floor. We all saw what happened when Kenny Anderson caught Groves, I think Froch will just be too strong, too rough and hit too hard for Groves. Groves has certainly got into Frochs head, but maybe not in the way he thinks. I think Froch has the look of a man ready to do business. I don't think he is wound up, I think he is looking to punish him for his silly talk. I think Groves would have been better pissing up Frochs back and hoping he took it lightly.
I agree, Groves thinks he has got into Frochs head but all he has done imo is annoy him and I think this was a very stupid thing to do.
Fair play to Groves he backed up his talk. Froch looked to me like a guy who is starting to slide. Still had enough to drag himself back into the fight and may well have finished him. He looked to have slowed though and the ridiculous run of top end fights has left its mark. Silly stoppage. He may have finished him but this just left a load of questions.
Brilliant fight by groves. And a ridiculous decision by the ref. How can you stop a fight when someone is actively moving forward and getting themselves off the ropes. Unfair on Groves, unfair on the fans. The only people who will be truly happy with that result are the promoters. Absolute joke I dont remember the ref stepping in when Froch was stumbling. I someone is on the the ropes and is being held up by the ropes then step in, (a la Bute/Taylor.) But Groves was still moving and had plenty o opportunity to make the end o the round. Robbery
I think it was a bad stoppage but I don't think it was as bad as some people were making out. I thought Froch would have gone on to stop him anyway but we will never know now. The other question that has to be asked is what the hell were the judges watching? Its unlikely Groves that would have won the fight on points anyway with them judges, two of them only had him up by one point which is a complete farce.
