As f*cking annoying as it is, if it is true and he does go for £85 million that is a lot of money. I don't want it to happen but can a club like ours really turn that down? In between all the annoying stuff Piskie posts he is right that every player has his price.

It's interesting to note ethical British journalists like those at the Star, Metro and SkySports taking a known Real mouthpiece at its word

This summer we need Bale to have no price. Last summer we got bum-****ed in the same way over Modric. We need to show this season that it can't just be done whenever otherwise its open-season on our best players in every window for the foreseeable future. If we have any aspirations of CL or trophies it needs to start this summer, with Bale

    Lol!

Really pissed if this Soldado bid rejection is true.

I mean what a waste of ****ing time. Valencia have always said that they will not move. Getting sick and tired of that ignorant, cheap, bald headed ****. You would have thought he would have learnt his lesson in January.

WE NEED A STRIKER YOU THICK BALD TWAT.

of course we can turn it down ,and have to,if we don't as i've said already, most of the team will follow him out of Spurs,Paulinho signed only because he was told Bale was staying, did Levy tell him lies just so he would sign for us?, if bale goes Spurs will lose the rest of their Stars, over the next couple of season's,and before we know it we're in the Championship

He's right though. Not to the extent we will be in the championship as we will have a LOT of money coming in, but we'll be back to mid-table pretty bloody sharpish IMO

I have to agree. Bale is key to your team, last season he hid a multitude of sins and I think without him you'd really struggle to keep up with the top 6. For all the money you might get, whether it's £80m or £50m, you simply just cannot go out and buy another Gareth Bale.

To counter all the pessimism i'd like to make one point:

Do we all think Levy as a business-man is stupid? Assuming we think he's fairly decent at it do we really think he would be pushing ahead with new stadium plans only to let the on-field side fall to ruin? He knows (pretty much 100% sure) that the on-field success will dictate our ability to fill that stadium with full price ticket buyers. We won't sell 60k full price (eg, not kids of a pound or whatever west ham do) if we are watching similar **** to that of the early 2000s and the 90s.
Bale, at this point, is a massive asset not just on the field but off. We will be getting more exposure across the world, gaining new fans, getting better negotiating rights for income revenues etc etc just based on owning Bale. Unless Bale comes out and says he wants to leave then i can't believe Levy is gonna give ALL that up for 85m quid

I think that's a bit of an extreme reaction tots but I get your point! I am just being Devil's Advocate and as fans we dont really view Spurs as a business unlike Levy does. It's probably just as well as we are a very well run club.
It is blo*dy annoying if the Soldado rumour is true but it's probably just the start of the negotiation. Do we really want to pay £26 million for a 28 year old? That is a lot of money and a huge risk. Of course Valencia will stick their heals in to begin with. I expect there to be more develpoments on this one over the next week or so.
I like all of you want our club to move forward, keep Bale and make big signings but I dont want us to do this by putting the clubs finances in jeopardy.

I am not sure I totally agree with this, Bale was without question outstanding last season, but I think you would agree that 2 seasons ago RVP carried Arsenal, last season without him other players stepped up and you shared the goals around your team, whilst no one would deny that Bale would be a loss, looking at the squad (and this is without investing the money received for Bale) it still looks capable of challenging for top 4 again, and other players may well step into the breach when they don't have the option of just giving it to Bale and hoping!

Very very good point Ashford Gill. In fact in games without Bale we have done alright. I could make the exact argument that Piskie made about a million times last season about Van Persie!! :)

Indeed. RVP to Man Utd didn't quite work as well for Spurs as we all hoped it would :(

When the unfortunate day comes when we do decide to cash in, I'd like to think the money would be re-invested for a number of players. Like you said you cannot just simply get another Bale, so hopefully with a supposed figure of £80m coming in, I'd like to think we get say 4 £20m or 2 £30m and 1 £20m etc sort of players which effectively, COULD replace Bale's loss.

We've managed to do okay(ish) when losing big players, albeit none are on Bale's level but even so, when we lost the likes of Carrick, Berba, Modric and Rafa (plus King's retirement) at their respective timings, things looked bleak. Luckily we've managed to bring in players that have kept us challenging for the top 4/5 spots and now hopefully, with Chadli and Paulinho on board (and potentially Soldado) we can look to kick on and try and cement a top 4 finish this time around. No easy task but we've strengthened massively so I'd like to think that counts for something.

You've got it all to come as far as financing a new stadium and trying to keep your best players. You lot might like to have dig at Arsenal for not winning any trophies in the last 8 years, but the fact is that we've built our stadium, payed the majority of it off, qualified for the Champions League every year and built up a healthy transfer war chest too. So we are well placed to take the step back up to our rightful place amongst the league leaders.

If the chance to sell Bale for £80m came up, I think Levy would be very tempted. It could be the difference between losing one good player now and taking it on the chin, or losing your best players each year (as we did) just to service the debts. It's a fine balance between keeping the team successful on the pitch and ensuring that the finances are under control. But at the end of the day, if the club have unmanagable debts, then the squad could be decimated, so it might be best to sell Bale now whilst his stock is so high.
