After all of these WUM articles, I thought i'd make a proper article... Peter Gulacsi, our second-choice goalkeeper, could be going out on loan next season according to his management agency. Agency owner Tibor Pataky said: "We're not surprised because Peter has been considered as one of the best of his age in international football. "We can't say which clubs are interested but we can say that seven teams indicated that they will travel to France in order to watch him live. These clubs are from England, Germany, Holland and Belgium. The most likely possibility is that Peter will spend the season at another club. "Of course the final decision will be made by Liverpool. But we're not worried about this as his career has been managed very gently. They see his values and also his high potential." Now, I believe this would be an excellent idea for all concerned. Peter would gain some experience playing football week in, week out which would be excellent. We would have Martin Hansen who would be able to deputise as the second choice keeper. We would also have Brad Jones but I would expect him to be sold in the summer. If one of Pepe Reina or Martin Hansen got injured, putting a 24-hour bring back clause into any deal would make sure that we can't get caught out by injures in the goalkeeping department. If he is not going to play, then a loan with the intentions of making sure he comes back to us is OK with me. Seems one for the future and look at how well Pepe has done, probably down to playing time he had when he was at Villareal. This made him a much more capable keeper at a young age. You can look around at young keepers who are shaky. Joe Hart, not really shaky but pretty solid, loads of playing time, did not just sit the bench and wait.
I suspect Brad Jones would be sold and Martin Hansen would be promoted to second choice if Peter Gulacsi is sent out on loan.
I think Brad will leave in the summer, so I'd guess at Hansen getting a spot on the bench. Although I sometimes feel it's stupid to put a keeper on the bench when Reina has had 50+ appearances every season he's been here. Not too likely he's going to get sent off/injured.
yeah but you never know... although it is always entertaining when an outfield player has to go in goal. I remember Vinnie Jones having a great game between the sticks a few years ago
Or the complete opposite when Reina had to play outfield in a preseason friendly. I can't remember who we were playing but he was a beast!
