  1. With respect, that is not an argument for us selling Bale.

Levy set his stall out several seasons back, that he wanted us to be CL regulars, and every neutral can see that we've made big strides in that department. For example, we were the only side to take 4 points off United last season, and we were unlucky to finish in 5th on 72 points, our highest ever in the EPL, and a tally that would have seen us finish 2nd in previous seasons. Selling Bale would be a massive step backwards for Levy and Spurs, and I simply do no see him doing it. If the reports are correct, that Baldini has gone to Spain to personally secure the signature of Soldano, then we are looking at spending another £25m on getting the striker that we've needed these past four seasons.

I'm not saying that we'd have a squad capable of winning the league, but we'll certainly have one capable of beating 'Pool and the Gooners to 4th, which is what Levy has been consistently striving for, since the days of Martin Jol.

  2. All excellent exposition, as usual, but what about the points that I've been making for Spurs becoming top 4 contenders, if we sign a striker?

if you get Soldano, you will push your spending to 50m, and that is alot for a club who is not playing CL, alot for a club who end up in red
but agree Levy is blinded by his pursuit for the 4th, so he may try to keep his best players and not selling
but just out of curiosity, is Levy spending from his pocket? you sure living and spending now beyond your means

in all honestly, I think your squad is not good enough to finish top4, unless one of top4 clubs are not good enough .. don't get me wrong spurs is my 2nd fav club after UTD, but you don't have the depth on squad and this is why you lose the 4th spot by the end of every season running out of fuel

    Good luck anyway

We've been hearing about Spurs taking our place in the top 4 for years now. It's been nearly 20 years since you last finished above us. So is this an official HAIG prediction TM (you know, the ones that come back to haunt you ) or is this just more of the same wishful thinking from the spuds that we've been laughing off as bluster and guff for the last two decades ?

PISKIE, HIAG, you're like a pair of teenagers who won't admit that they fancy each other. Please take your sexual frustration back to your own boards. You couldn't be more tedious. Cheers.

I think we should sign HAIG and unleash him on the Chelsea board.

Your sarcasm sucks HIAG. One might think that when I joked about you growing soggy saggy moist lips where your cock n balls should be are in fact true statements with such vaginal sarcasm

You nearly made top 4 last season without said striker. I thought Dempsey was the one to do the job with all the gloating over signing him. Granted a lot of that was carried upon Bale's shoulders but you also have to consider that the other teams were actually quite poor last season, will it be the same this year? Chelsea City and Arsenal might improve on poor seasons last year, are likely to in fact, where does that leave spurs if Bale goes, 5th at best is my opinion and even that would not be guaranteed, you seem to think when someone else signs someone who doesn't play in the prem they are unproven until Spurs sign someone and then its all good, lack of knowledge at best, tribal stupidity at worst.

the facts from last season were that without Bale you may not have even managed 7th spot never mind 4th. he did carry you a lot and got points where as a team you didn't deserve any in quite a few games.

Keeping Bale is far more important than signing a striker, mind you the new Brazilian could turn out to be a gem, or the stone in a Christmas cracker jewelry piece, have to wait and see.

Adding to the squad will be positive for Spurs, trading players like Bale an uncertainty.

Now if your Yahtzee brain could conjure up such discussion when talking about Liverpool instead of the complete tosh you and your ilk dribble onto your board I could let go of the fact that I am far better at taking the piss out of you than you are at taking the piss out of Liverpool, it is why you cry so much.

  12. That was purely because Bale played such a blinder, hence the fevered interest in him, this window. None of us can count on him repeating that kind of form. We've needed a striker for several seasons; I'd rather rely on a decent striker than on Bale repeater his blinding form of last season.

Yeah, we all did. We all got it wrong. Personally, I never wanted us to sign Dempsey, as I have never rated him as a top player. He's probably at 'Pool's current level, and we should have let him go there. Certainly, if we are to improve, we need a better striking option than him, as he clearly is not top 4 material.

Sorry, but I don't accept that. If other teams were poor, it was because the likes of Southampton, WBA and Swansea worked hard to make them look poor. The arrogance of certain teams is the belief in the idea that merely by spending money they are entitled to win everything when, in fact, it rarely works that way in the EPL.

Will it be the same this year? Will the EPL be as competitive this year as it has been for the past three seasons? Yes, I believe it will be.

Then again, they might not. Neither seem to have spent much in the window, thus far.

If Bale goes, he goes. We finished 5th twice on the bounce under Jol without Bale. No player is bigger than the club, and we are a big club. I'd me more worried if we got rid of AVB and had to try to get another manager in, to be frank with you. We have a cracking squad of players, easily the 5th best in the league, even without Bale.

And the idea that Levy wouldn't spend any of the £85m earned on the sale of Bale to strengthen us in key areas is, quite frankly as ridiculous as it is unlikely.

Huh? I haven't got a clue what you are on about, here.

In any event, I don't subscribe to the kind of thinking that you have (erroneously) credited me with.

There is no denying that Bale is a very influential player for us, as he would be in any team for which he plays. However, the idea that we would have been incapable of winning matches without him is utterly absurd. If Bale was unavailable to be picked someone else would have come in and the manager would have set the team up differently. That is the importance of having a top manager, someone who knows what he's doing. On the occasions when Bale has been out due to injury or suspension, we have never suffered unduly.

I'd say they were equally as important. With a decent striker and Bale we'd be odds-on for a top 4 finish.

That's how it is with every new signing.

Levy has consistently said that Bale is not for sale. Bale has consistently told the media that he is happy at Spurs. The only ones making noises otherwise are Real, who have been tapping him up all Summer.

You are a complete amateur when it comes to wumming, sonny. I'm sorry that you've got a chip on your shoulder about that, but it is a fact, and you should learn to live with it.

    Sorry.

Bit harsh on Dempsey IMO. He scored some big goals for you guys last season.

  16. Not enough big goals, though, Manobear.

Would any of the four clubs above us want him in their first XI?

We should bid for Luiz Gustavo, Bayern have too many midfielders and he's a quality player.
